I might pick one of these up( need another 22 like a hole in the head ) but it's a bit of Canadian history and the price is $100,it doesn't look beat up
What are they like for reliability and accuracy?Anything to watch out for when buying one?
Are they really a savage 64?

If it's the one on EE go for it . I would if he would ship . When your done playing with it I'll give your money back and pay shipping
I think them old cooey are as good as anything out there don't know if anybody ever tried the match ammo in a cooey but they shoot better than most ammo will

Its a Savage 64.

Im not a huge fan of these. Ive had a lot of experience with them and they tend to be quite picky about ammo and need to be kept quite clean. They also run better dry then lubed up.

Yeah,it's the one on EE,haven't actually seen it yet but it doesn't look abused...not sure what the trigger is like but some of the older 22's have way better triggers than the new ones..my 30 year old Marlin is infinitely better than the 795...what ammo do they like?,I like shooting 'quiet' 22's,if they will cycle( my Norinco JW20 will cycle them fine)

I should have said my experience with cooey s has been with bolt action s . Never had one of the semi models . I wouldn't hesitate though for $100

If I remember correctly, Sureshots were made by Cooey for Sears. I just recently sold my single shot one. Also have the 64, and as already mentioned, they are picky on ammo and need to be kept clean and dry. I recently tried out two different brands of ammo and it hates both of them, and for the life of me I cannot remember what I used to shoot in it that shot flawlessly, been forever since I shot it, and my daughter used up all my old .22 ammo, so I have no clue what it ran on and never jammed up. :( but I do,remember it being pretty accurate.

I'm getting it as much for nostalgia being a Cooey as anything else ,and if it shoots well, so much the better. It will probably end up being passed on to a grandaughter...

THe great thing about the Cooey semis is, they go full auto if not cleaned. No, not always but I have seen a few do it.

That scares me, but I googled it and found other 22semi's can do the same thing, including the 10/22 if not cleaned..generally I'm not a fan of semi's but this one appears to have been used very little and apart from a few marks on the stock appears in good shape and it was only $100 including two mags .I'm not sure when it was made but it has the polymer magazine ,if that gives a clue.I'm interested in anybody's experiance who has used them ,what kind of ammo( hyper of regular) shoots best

LOL I have one that is more like a 3, sometimes 4 shot burst but the mag usually dumps in 3 pulls. Clean it it was good for 50 or so. Has since been retired to the parts bin but I will say that particular gun came to me very used and had shot more than it's fair share of rounds. Have three more that will run just about any ammo and accuracy is as good as any.

'Have three more that will run just about any kind of ammo' -three more Cooey semi's or three more semi's?.is the Cooey better , worse or just about the same as the rest of the semi's ?

It wont cycle them. I guarantee it. Faster the better

Yeah,I got it ,for $100 including two polymer mags. Not sure about those, appearently they can break, and it's hardly worth spending money on the metal upgrade. It looks to be in very good condition apart from some cosmetic marks on the stock.....and a previous owners SIN etched into the reciever....why people do that,I don't know.....I could probably get it out,but it's more trouble than it's worth ,and sometimes better left alone

It'll be interesting to see how it shoots, what sort of accuracy and how reliable it cycles...If it's good to go,I'll give it to my hunting partners 12 year old daughter,I already gave her a single shot savage cub(pink)to begin shooting with ,then an old bolt action mossberg ,and now maybe she's ready for a fun gun....I told her she owed me a handful of grouse tailfeathers...

What causes the side rails on the plastic mags to break? Rough useage, age wear,or will careful handling prevent it?I know you can get the replacement metal ones but it's hardly worth spending money on a cheap rifle unless it's a really good shooter.
The guy I bought it from said it 'didn't group well' but that could just be ammunition,I won't know until I try it but gun shows little sign of much shooting

Those plastic mags are worth a bit of coin to the right individual.
An upgrade kit back in time was around the $50 mark.
Those two mags would sure pay for the kit if in fact this old gal
is worthy of being great at putting them holes close together.
Find a kit first...........me thinks.

Have a number of Cooey 64's and enjoy them all . Pretty accurate pieces. There were three models -the 64 (with plastic mag -like that Sure Shot) the 64a with metal mag and the improved 64 B with metal mag . Where it gets confusing is when guys upgrade the old 64 to a metal mag 64 and people think its late model . I believe the Sure Shot was only made as an early 64. By the way I have the same Sure Shot as your looking at (and paid a lot more) . I use CCI ammo and have never had a jam up, have had problems with Winchester ammo. Keep very lightly lubed -no gun grease and check your plastic mags for no cracks.
I grabbed another 64 the other day at a gun show for $85.00 with scope . Never cleaned it and took out to my back 40 . I swear its more accurate than my Ruger 10/22. Maybe its time I quit ?
