Cooey Sureshot Repeater - Upgraded

I took a notion that I would like to take a plain, inexpensive rifle and 'jazz' it up a little. My husband did all the metal work, and I did all the wood.
I thinned and reshaped the forend with a Schnabel. Re-worked the grip and added a walnut grip cap. Checkered both the fore and butt stocks at 22 lines per inch. Checkered the butt plate end and refinished with an oil rubbed finish and polished with some luthier pumice, then rottenstone. This is the first complete gun that I've modified.

That's really well done, great job! I've all ways wanted to do something along these lines. Really no better rifle to do it on then an old Cooey.

Yup, that is nice work for sure. I like the walnut grip cap the most. Also that metal looks pretty clean

Thanks. Rough estimates would probably be about 5 hours for all the metalwork and about 8 hours for the woodwork, not including the refinishing process.

Thanks! Sorry, I don't have pictures of the process. The checkering pattern is my design. The metal was polished and re-blued, it was in good shape to start with - not rust or pitting. The butt plate and the trigger guard are case coloured.
