BTW, there were 2 sources for them, both now exhausted sadly.
Best of luck finding one. For some reason, most of the M82's you see seem to be missing them.
Might try putting a WTB ad in the Milsurp or Rimfire Parts EE?

i got 1 such complete rear site from a cgn member for cost of postage a few years back.
since then i have the L shaped base for 1 found in a parts box at a gun show ..........if you need it MESSAGE ME ........if i can dig it up its yours same kinda deal. only fair to pay it forward ...........hahahaha .

I just bought one a few weeks ago on Ebay. They are out there. This guy on ebay seems to sell them every month. Keep checking Ebay, you will get one. I paid 26 dollars including shipping from Ontario to Stony Plain Alberta...

I've got a line on Cooey 82, but it of course doesn't have the peep sight. Since it's already missing, I don't think it would be completely offensive to use a different, perhaps better receiver sight. Would such a thing exist?

Not likely that will fit it as is. You will probably have to drill holes and modify the stock which means you will destroy what value the original 82 will have. If you don't want to hurt value, look for the original peep sight.
