Which Cooey tube-fed repeaters could take shorts, longs, and long-rifle ammunition? The rifle I used as a kid had witness lines factory engraved in the tube near the feed opening so you could hold up your ammunition to it and make sure you're loading the "right" ammunition.

I recently bought a Cooey model 60 because it's almost exactly like I remembered the one I used to use as a boy. The two main differences are: 1) my "new" Cooey has the correct flat-comb stock, but the wood is a lot fancier grained than my original and 2) there are no witness lines on the tube.

I'm happy with my new purchase, but I'd like to know why the tube is different than I remember.

Thanks for any information you can provide.

CANFIRE:

How old was the Cooey that you are referring to? I just dug mine out of the gun safe and it does not have any witness markings. The barrel is stamped that it takes S/L/LR ammunition.

My Model 60 dates from 1959 and was my first gun. It still makes regular trips to the range and feeds and shoots well after thousands of rounds. It is now being used by the second generation a really great firearm.

I was just looking through my cooey reference book. No remarks about witness lines on the loading tube. There were many variations over the years. Do you remember any other names on the Cooey? They did make them is special runs for Department stores and maybe that was added as a special.

Thanks guys. The Cooey I used as a boy was my Dads so I would estimate it was purchased new around 1960-1965. I distinctly remember it having some method of measuring the ammo, but maybe instead of witness marks the feed port was step-cut? I'll try drawing what I mean by step-cut using ascii characters:
