Neil. You will need to do some serious mods to the M70 stock to get the 71 action to fit.
The M70 is a flat-bottomed action with an integral recoil lug, the M71 is a round-bottomed action with a sandwiched
recoil lug, somewhat like the 700 Remington. IIRC, the bolt spacing is also slightly different.
D.
No, they were not. That was the CIL 950. The Cooey used a post-64 Winchester bolt body and a tubular receiver. The trigger is mechanically similar to a model 70 but uses different parts. As for fitting it into a model 70 stock, sure, you can but glass bedding will be mandatory.
Do a search in the Hunting rifles forum (this one) and there are lots of threads about the Cooey model 71 Some have restocked with Model 70 stocks but required work. Last reference I can remember was that western gun parts (thread was from 2011) stocked replacement stocks
It really doesn't matter. Either a Remington or Winchester is going to need some alteration and some epoxy in order to fit. If WGP still has some Cooey stocks, that would be the easy option.
