Hi everyone,

I can't seem to find a magazine for my cooey model 64A neither on Brownell's nor on Numrich gun parts. There is availability for the cooey model 64 and 64B magazines, which by the way is the same rifle as sears model 6c, lakefield model 64 and maybe savage model 64.

My question is as follows: Does anyone know those canadian rifle enough to confirm if the magazine of a cooey model 64B is interchangeable with the one in a model 64A?

Thanks for you help.

except the first issue of the Cooey 64 which had a plastic mag. All others mags are the same as the modern Savage 64 issue. I have a few ( cooey 64,cooey 64A, lakefield 64B and Sears 8C) and all interchange easily. Some have to be "fitted" to work easily but very minor adjustments .

A new mag can be ordered from savage directly. google Savage arms. or cabelas has them in stock via mailorder..google SIR

If your gun is designed to take the plastic first model mags it will have a flat metal spine that the back of the mag slides up. If it is designed for the later metal magazines , the mag fits into a metal mag well with a latch at the front. There are only two mag designs.

Hi again,

Thank you so very much!

I have been looking for this for so long and a friend told me about this forum as a source of information. Boy was he right. Thanks again for your quick and detailed answers, you can not believe how grateful I am. I am now eager to put this old rifle back in operation.

I'll get back to you if this thread still exists when I am done reviving my cooey.

Bye.

Enjoy the gun...I shoot all 6 of mine . They like to be cleaned and oiled after each outing or they gum up and will not function properly. That means the firing mechanism taken out and the receiver cleaned good. they are quite simple to service..

Hello,

Yes, mine is quite gummed. I will of course clean it up before trying my new magazine. I found and bought one yesterday, brand new for 15$ CAD at LeBaron. I already have it in hand. It's Savage item No 30005. I'll be trying it this week-end, I'll give you some feedback.

Bye.

$15 is a good price. Seen them at a gun show for $30. Whoever was selling them was crazy.
My 64b loves anything by CCI. Stingers, mini-mags, and sub sonics all have worked fine out of it.

Hi,

This should be my last post in this thread. I just want to confirm that the magazine that I bought does work perfectly in my Cooey 64A and I am happy to have found the information I needed on this message board.

Bye.

I have a plastic mag and the gun to go with it. The plastic mags are obsolete and guns are usually changed to the metal mag well and mag. These are available from savage . The plastic mags come dearly and often exceed the value of the gun.

I have come across only 2 Cooey 64s that were equipped for the plastic mag. Only one had the mag with it. the other was given to me as a mag could not be located. I kept the complete gun and converted the other to metal mag well and mag. If the gun has the pressed rabbit stock, even less were manufactured. I have both a plain and a rabbit stocked gun but the stocks can be so readily switched that often true factory guns have been altered. Many were manufactured without serial numbers also as it was not a requirement at that time.
