I'm thinkin it's time to finally buy a .308.

I REALLY love those FN FAL's and the L1A1's but you guys all know the score with them

I would really like a cool Black type of .308 that is NON-Restricted! With all those RobARMs units and the AR-180 and the Sig stuff it would only be logical to assume that I could get a non-restricted .308 of similar styling.

I know someone is going to mention an M305/m-14 and that is definately going to be considered. I'm thinkin that I may actually want to go to Springfield as I don't nessisarily trust Norstinco and I want something with a Nice finish that looks Quality built.

Any suggestions would be muchly appreciated. I'm trying to keep the budget down so nothing over $1500 Tax inc.

Cheers,
Wally

Springfields are $2000 plus. As many others will probably mention the Norinco m305s are good rifles. If you are concerned about the parts then they can all be changed to USGI for less than the Springfield. Then you will end up with a USGI with a forged receiver instead of cast. Springfields QC seems to be spotty lately. Most of the Norinco parts were built with USGI tooling too.

Good luck finding a new Springfield for $1500. Theres nothing wrong with the Norinco M14's. Read the sticky in the battle rifle forum and buy with confidence. Theres not many Springfields that make me nervous at the range when I'm shooting my handloads out if my Norinco. I spent less than your budget, a little sweat and elbow greese at Hungry's clinic and I have a rifle that I'd bet my life on. Good luck, Mark K

Hell I got a stock Norinco M-14s as it's great. Mind you, I only put at most, about 400 or so rounds a year through it as it's more for hunting than range shooting (well actually gravel pit shooting). You can't go wrong with the Norcy.

Hmmmmmm.

What do you want, a nice/pretty looking rifle that has a cast reciever and many parts now made off shore, or rifle that has a forged reciever, looks a little rough, but will perform and has a better value to upgrade???

I have two Custom Norincos and they both look quality built.;)

Springfield M1A = $1800.00 to $2000.00 Cdn.
This is a standard model.

Norinco M305/M14 = $399.00.
For the Extra $1500.00 that would have been spent on a Springfield, you can build the Norc into tight shooting match rifle with an aftermarket quality barrel (Barnett, Douglas, or Kreiger)& USGI parts.

Just my $0.02.

Why not get something Benelli R1 or Browning BAR. Technically, they are not "black rifles" but they sure look a lot nicer than Springfield and Norinco.

The valment hunter is an opshion. AK'ish but expencive.

Hell, you can always get a 1919A1....if ya's got ALLOT of cash. Little heavy to lug around though.

Hey come on........the "Hunter Bob" Forum is a few forums down.....This is the Black Rifle Forum!!:p;):D

Wally, do a search for SAGE on this forum. You will find more than a few that have turned Norstincos into extremely potent shooters. I'd go up against a National match M1A any day using my Norinco fitted to a Sage. Funny thing is, mine still cost less than an M1A. But I digress. This is after all the black rifle section of this forum.

This is my Norinco-Sage Battle Rifle:

It's a Grey Navy Sage "Chop Mod" 22" barrel . Cost about $1300 CDN as is.

You could chop,(19" barrel) index, add direct connect FH to the barrel. About $200 if you can't do it yourself. Still cheaper than an M1A (already has a R33 op rod guide and extended bolt stop/release installed at $110) So you have an unrestricted 308 (sorta black) for about $1500 CDN that shoots MOA or less all on a Norinco platform.

Bushmaster, DPMS, Armalite, etc etc etc............308s are restricted currently and cost more than the above. Plus I get to take it anywhere, anytime:D :D :D :D :D

Good God. Alright! you guys sold me on the M305 :D I'm now thinking I might have to get one. First order of business will be to get rid of the Stock..... uhh Stock lol.

Thanks for the Input guys. *Sigh* That poor FN Fal will have to live on in my Dreams :(

Cheers,
Wally

I'm building an FAL now. Will probably have to wait for years for the restrictions to be lifted before I can finish it and actually get to shoot it. Or...............

What about an Armalite AR10? (unless they're not available anymore). FWIW, I don't think the Norcs are that rough looking--sure they're not finely blued and polished but I don't expect them to be. When I got mine last year I was really quite pleasantly surprised with its look.

Edit: should've read Wally's reply up-thread:redface: Good call, man!

 Sweet Dancing Jesus, I want one... But yeah, I'm lookin' for Non-R

I think I'm gonna answer my own questions but all those AR-10's are Restricted's right? I'm pretty sure they are.

Unfortunately, yes. Next step—restricted PAL! Go for it!

:D yeah I know man! It's on the old list of things to do. BUT the main reason I want Non-R is so that I can go hunting and plinking without the Federal Govn't Holding my hand.

LOL! The Norc would be your best bet there, then. I've been an FN fan for years but in all honesty I find the M14 a more comfortable rifle to shoot. Before I got mine last year it had been probably 16 years since I fired one (a converted auto USGI M14) and I had forgotten the sweeeeet feel of the recoil. I like the look of an FN a little better (although the M14 look is certainly growing on me!) but I found them not as comfortable to shoot (well, when we could shoot them at least:mad: )
