cool remington limited edition vietnam rifle.

I posted that last year. Not available in Canada. Special production run for one of the big US Distributors. I'm pretty sure you're only way of getting one is to purchase it in the US & jump through the hoops to import it yourself, or to get a company like Questar to do it for you...and yes, tres cool!

Remington put out one & Sniper Central also put out one. Sniper Central's was alot nicer except it didn't have the stripper clip cut out.
Saw an original one for sale, $15,000.00 USD

They cost too much to import so I built my own for under $900.00

Rem 700 SPS Varmit, cut bbl down to 24"
Remington alum butt plate off old stock
1960's Redfield base & rings off E-bay
1966 Redfield 3x9 scope off CGN
Rem BDL stock, ground off checkering & painted the black forend.
USGI sling
military sling swivels

That is fantastic looking jeepingpw.

If anyone manages to get one up here, Badger is making original spec base/ring combo's and Leupold is making a spec scope. I am not sure about the scope, but I know the base/rings are only available through SWFA. The Remington rifles were made for Davidson's, it was a colaberation with Remington/Iron Brigade Armory/USMC Sniper Association/Davidson's. I called Davidson's when they were first marketed, but they told me none were be sent to Canada.

It hard to find exact specs on these rifles. Everywhere I have looked gave different specs.

I found a site on the web yesterday (can't remember it now:confused:)that sells a repro of the scope base & 4 screw rings for $149.00 USD.

I've seen pics of one at the Springfield Armoury Museum & it had 2 screw rings with the screws through the top & didn't have the base with the front squared off as opposed to having the top front corners rounded off.

I have also read that the 2 screw rings were used, but they had the screws coming up from the bottom.
These are the rings that I managed to find & use.

As for the scope, They used the Redfield Accu-Trac 3x9 with a round Ocular lens, tomb stone range indicator & fine cross hairs. I managed to get one off this site from a guy who's uncle bought it in I believe 1966.
I've seen them on E-Bay, but usually go for over $400.00.

The first issued scopes & bases/rings were off the shelf gloss black.
Later on the scopes were anododized green.
The rifle/scope pictured in the Snipers Central web page shows theirs with the incorrect (& noted as such) Redfield Accu-Range scope that has an oblong Ocular lens.

I used the Rem SPS Varmit & cut down the barrel to 24".
Once again I found many different specs on the muzzle.
I have read conflicting info that states that they had a flat crown, 11 degree crown, a 11 degree target crown.
The finish isn't exact as the originals had a flat black bolt & floor plate with a Military greenish/grey parkerized finish. The SPS Varmit is nice because of the all black finish.
Please don't think that I know everything & no one else is right.
I think that back then, alot of parts were just thrown together.
This is the info I have found surfing the net, & used to build a "close enough" M40 without breaking the bank.
Now just have to get out & :sniper:

Great lookin piece of kit!

Well after some elbow grease, some great help from SH members and of course some items off EBay I finished off my M40 Knock off today.

It came out great, the hardest part being the removal of the checkering, it is still a bit visible as I didn't want to go overboard with sanding, but you have to really look to see it.

It just feels nice when shouldered, I cant wait to get out and Zero it this weekend...or later this week....
Here is a couple of pics, last thing i need to do is chop down the barrel but that will have to wait.....
