Finally got around to cleaning my new M&P9 now that the registration certificate has arrived. I cleaned the barrel with MPRO-7 gun cleaner and scrubbed it with a nylon brush until the patches came out relatively clean. There is what looks to be heavy copper fouling. How many test rounds does S&W put through these guns? Maybe they are using cheap ammo?

Kind of looks like rust, maybe a brass brush would work better. Lot of rifling there don't worry about it, shoot it a lot and it will get better.

Copperzilla is my go to cleaner for these. Soak for few minutes and bronze brush. Then clean patches. WD40 is also a good pre-cleaner. But make sure you do not use WD40 as lubricant for this is not suitable for this purpose.

wipeout and be done with it.

Tell you the truth, my M&P 9 never came like that or does it have abnormal amounts of copper fouling from shooting over 500 rounds so far

Thanks for the input. I have never seen copper fouling this heavy. I can put 100+ rounds through my .308 without using any copper solvent during cleaning and it looks nothing like this.

Hard to believe that a new gun with 20 (max?) rounds through it would look like this.

Bronze brush it with your choice of solvent. Shoot a box of jacketed ammo out of it afterwards and repeat the bronze and solvent. Oil patch down the bore, then... Fugetabotit!!!
