Core-15... I have one, it seems great, is there something I don't know?

Hey there.

I accidentally spotted an unreal bargain on a Core-15 M4gery on the EE, new in box from a supporting dealer. This made me break my long-standing intention to never own an AR. :) This is the kind of deal you tell people about, and they *groan*.

I've had it out to the range, and it worked perfectly, everything seems fine fit and finish wise (in this layman's opinion. Not like I broke out the calipers)

There seems to be some mixed opinions on the interwebs... but all the Canadian dealers seem to be blowing them out, including free Pmags, etc.

Is there something I don't know? Because so far I really like this rifle. Is the company circling the drain or something? Did they go to SHOT?

Cheers,

Dan

The company that makes them is relatively new to the AR world, so they run into a lot of "why not just buy from an established manufacturer instead" attitudes in the States. GTO was already an established fabricator (of aluminum airboats) before expanding into ARs and they machine the uppers and lowers and many of the other parts in-house. The two biggest technical complaints I've seen about them are that they use commercial-spec buffer tubes and 4140 steel barrels (instead of 4150). One is easily fixed, if necessary, and the other will probably never matter in our frozen land of 5-10 round mag dumps.

not really. If the gun works for you then don't worry. I haven't heard a bad word about the core15 rifles. Even if core was in trouble it wouldn't really effect you. Any part that failed down the road could easily be replaced by one made by someone else. The cheap price is probably due to the increased production that resulted from the AWB scare. Core probably has a large inventory right now that they want to convert into cash to buy whatever they need to keep making rifles.

i too have one...so far so good after 800 rounds. Trigger didn't want to reset after very first mag, just took some oil and working it in, it's functioned great ever since.

There are serious problems with that rifle.. Many here will offer their services for proper disposal, but they're all lying. My place is the only location where that menace to society can be disposed of safely

My Core 15 if friggin' awesome. I bought in from Wanstalls. (I own a Colt AR15 HBar 20" and it sits in the vault most the time) The first 3 gun match I used it at, I was able to take 2nd place. Still trying to decide which back up sights I want to buy...

Yup, love it!

That's awful pretty!

I went with the Magpul MBUS backup sights. Some blogger down in the states did drop tests with the MBUS, Troys, and another respectable make, and the MBUS were the only ones who survived. Sure, it was a sample size of 1, but still. Add in the weight and price advantage, and I couldn't honestly go any other route.

MBUS front with a pistol-type light mounted in front of it at 12 O'clock looks really, really, nice.... not that I have that. I have a fixed front sight carbine. But hey, what do you want for less than the price of a Nork?

Far from an expert, but in the alphabet soup of AR manufactures I don't think you can go wrong with a lot of them. Everyone seems to have stepped up their game. I heard a lot of good things about the Core 15. Price point being the biggest factor. Right around the 1000 mark you can buy you a decent entry level rifle built on this continent. I think the biggest problem for an up & coming AR manufacture would be to find a 1st letter for their name that hasn't already been used.LOL!
Enjoy, I doubt you will have any serious problems if you maintain it correctly.

Wanstalls has carried Core for a long time, I think they are trying to sell older stock with free pmags. My brother in law just picked up a used DI model with 16" barrel. He is bench rest shooter and manages decent 1.5" groups @ 100 yards. For the money, you get a decent value for an AR, problem is too many people try and make excuses why they spent more on something else.

First off -

The AR was never designed to be a 1 MOA rifle.

Secondly -

The AR community is a virtual 'old boys club' if their ever was one.

The Core15 has tighter tolerances than most of the AR's out there - take away the advertising and the hype, and you'll probably find the Core15 in the top 10 manufacturers.

After all, they make all their own stuff with brand new machinery - THEN they have guys at various points in the process with MICS trashing anything outside of their own set points. This likely explains their unbelievable warranty.

They sound like a good outfit to me ....
