Hello everyone I am currently in the market for a custom bolt action gun.

I am looking for a 338 rum that weighs about 12 pounds scoped.
I was looking online and saw corlanes makes custom guns. Anyone ever used a corlanes custom gun.
If so how was it how was the service.
Also I am open to other gunsmiths here on Canada.

Thanks

I have used their gunsmiths a lot, they have long lead times and are a bit expensive but do good work. Never had an RMR custom built by them but that sounds like the kind of build that is right up their alley. I know several guys who had them build guns and had no complaints

What type of work have you had done so far?

I would contact Insite Arms. I would use a carbon barrel and the MDT HNT26 chassis. I would also expect to be lighter than 12 lbs. Corlanes did some basic work for me. It was good, but slow.

Just normal small jobs, a rechambering and a rebarrel. I used to live near there so used them for bedding and fitting stocks, adding sights, cerakote. Probably sent 6-7 guns there.

I have a few complaints about the service and so do my buddies but that was never related to gunsmithing. I’ve dropped a lot of cash there so something is bad to happen eventually

For what it’s worth I no longer live there and now that I have to mail my stuff to a smith I don’t send it there, but I don’t make oilfield cash anymore so it’s a rare occurrence now anyways

Like I said, can’t speak to their custom builds. You see a lot of them on the range in the Peace region.

Their head gunsmith is a nice knowledgeable guy in my experience

The last time I dealt with them, I had a rifle in for a re-barrel, I was toid 8-12 weeks [barrel was in stock] on the 12th week I called to check and was told they were right on the agreed schedule, the discussion got a little heated and I got my rifle at about the 14th or 15th week they did not have time to stamp the new calibre on the barrel, My experience with gunsmiths, this is almost normal. I have since found another smith that says what they are going to do and then actually does what they said they would do.

I’ve been having work done by them for 15 years. Always have done good work and I’ve found their prices to be fair. There was a time when they weren’t great at completing the work by the quoted lead time but it seems they have that figured out lately as the last couple jobs were less than quoted( one was a rebarrel and the other a cut and crown)

Highly recommend them.

That said, it I were wanting a PRS rifle built I would call Insite Arms.

While I did not have the build done, personally, I acquired a rifle that was built for an acquaintance by Corlanes.

It was well done, fitted properly, and was very accurate. My only issue with the rifle, [not Corlane's fault]
was the Timney trigger. It came set at about 4.5 lbs, and could not be adjusted lower safely.

I was not OK with the response I got from Timney, so simply garbaged that trigger, and installed a better
unit of my own. The rifle has gone to a new home, but not due to any defect in the build. Dave.

Insite Arms

300 Norma Mag
Defiance GA Hunter
Manners EH1A
Hardy CFW 1 in 9 twist finished to 27"
Insite Heathen .995" 4 port brake

8lbs plus scope.

The Hardy carbon contour is pretty much a Heavy Palma contour.

My brother has a full built on a 7RM on a M70 action in a McMillan A4 (I believe) stock. It's a very heavy barrel rifle, but it shoots very well. It's nto really his bag so I think he's planning to sell it. If I lived out West I would definitely buy it off him, but it's a pretty useless rig in Nova Scotia!
