Corlane's was like Santa Claus for me this week. Broke down and got my .257 Wby from them. Couldn't find a used one that I wanted here or anywhere, so I dealt with one of the owners, Tim Schram, and found myself into a new Weatherby Mark V Ultra Lightweight in .257 Wby Mag for about $160 less than Wholesale Sports sells it for. A late Christmas Special I hear. Anyhow, I wanted to top it off with a Leupold VX-III, 4.5 - 14 X 40mm in Matte Black WITH the Boone and Crockett reticle, but they only had one in the new finish, "Gun Steel Grey" in stock. Tim thought it looked good and said he'd send it to me and if I didn't like it I could return it and he'd order me one in Matte Black. Well.... I got the rifle after a few days, with the scope. That was yesterday. I tried, I REALLY tried, but alas, I had to send it back! Just couldn't get myself to like the color. Real nice looking scope by itself, but stick it on a grey / black spider-webbed synthetic stock, with a matte black action and stainless steel barrel and it was TOO LOUD for me! Too many different colors. 6 colors in total counting the gold ring on the scope. Looked like a teenage kid going to a costume party, with heavy makeup on. :runaway: I really did try! I thought maybe if I left it and looked at it again this morning in natural daylight it'd look better, but no..... I'm not sure what rifle it would suit, but it looks damn sharp all by itself! Anyhow, a quick call to Tim and he had the same scope in matte black on it's way to me from his distributor in Okotoks, Alta.
KUDOS to Corlane's and Tim for getting the rifle to me so quickly, before my wife got home from holidays! The extra $30 bucks for Express Post shipping was well worth it in order to get it into the house and hidden before she got home! I bought a couple boxes of factory ammo to break her in, and today got some components to reload for it. If anyone has favourite loads for the .257 Wby, check my post over in the reloading forum, and leave the info there. Hope my new scope arrives soon. It doesn't shoot that great of a group with no sights and an unscoped barrel!!! 10 rounds = 1 foot group at about 30 yards! Just couldn't wait....

Yeah nice of him to sell you a 6 colored rifle LOL now it only has 5 different colors!
Spend ALOT of time inspecting that rifle and the brass it ejects

Hell of a scope that VXIII with the B&C Reticle.... don't settle for less.
Nice rifle and caliber too.... What kind of victims are you looking to harvest with that rig Whiskey?

I've had a quite a few dealings with Corlane over the years, and I have to say they've been honorable and fair in every instance. They are also one of the few remaining shops who cheerfully accept consignments and trades. Their gunsmiths are also competent and reasonably priced, considering todays market. They deserve a compliment now and then - the really good 'old style' shops are becoming few and far between.

Forgot to mention too, they are priced "to the penny" the same as Wholesale sports for rifles and optics, as their normal sticker price.
BC Steve, I'll try posting a picture once I get the matte black scope onto her. This is the third rifle I've bought from Tim. I bought a .340 Wby about 5 years ago from him and a .22 Chipmunk for kids a couple years ago. Always was happy with price and service.
David Doyle; sounds like you don't care for Mark V's.. Any specific concerns to shed light upon for me with regards to the brass or rifle, or just your personal non-preference? Also, the rifle will now have 3 colors on it, plus the gold ring, however dark grey, and matte black look quite good together and the stainless barrel blends in real nice with the matte fluting on it, in my opinion. It satisfies my preference anyhow.
BIGGREDD; It's the first scope with the B&C reticle that I own, but have been covetting one for some time. I would have gotten it in the VX-II if Leupold made such a package, but as you know the B&C hairs only comes in the III. When looking through VX-II's or VX-III's, I can't see a noticeable difference. Nothing worth the double sized price tag anyhow. Both fantastic models of scope though. This rig will be my new main-carry rifle for Kodiak bears and Cape Buffalo.....

hehehe.. Good one, eh? No, it'll be with me when I go for goats, sheep and deer. It'll be handy enough to whack nosey coyotes around the farm too. I also bought it with the idea that it'll be a good one to have when my kid(s) start to hunt. A fella I know, started all his kids out on his wifes .257 Roberts. His youngest daughter shot her first moose with it this past fall. Low enough recoil for them to be real competent marksmen.
