I just got myself a 1942 No.4 Mk.1 ROF FAZ enfield. It came with the 300/600 L sight on the rear and im looking to get a micrometer for it so i can shoot at a wider range of distances without having to do the math on trajectory. now with all the different versions out there which one is right?

I notice that some of the milled ones have a 'leg' on the bottom when folded down that presses the little plunger/spring in farther then the pressed sights do, is this only for certain rifles or will it fit?

Im eventually returning the rifle to full mil spec as all the numbers match (barrel/receiver/bolt) and i want it to be as accurate as possible on the parts i have to replace.

The Mark 1 was the original micrometer-screw sight specified for this rifle.

Your L sight is the Mark 2. They were put on because the Mark 1 sight turned out to be a bottleneck in production as well as slow to adjust.

Later in the War, the Mark 3 sight came out: a stamped rear sight with a quick-release slider for quick adjustment. It was fragile because the slide release stuck out too far to the side and got broken off.

The Mark 4 was the final British version: very similar to the Mark 3 but tougher.

There also were rear sights made up of combined Mark 3 and Mark 4 parts. You run into one very so often but they never were common by any means, being more a field expedient than anything else.

There also were 2 different Canadian rear sights for this rifle, marked with a C before the Mark.

ANY of them is correct for your rifle, although your rifle likely HAS the sight it was built with. Mark 2 sights were changed-OUT in rebuilds but never changed-IN, the fully-adjustable sights being definitely preferred.

Hope this helps.

if you get a good fitting bayonet you will able to use it at varying ranges.

Going off memory:
300 w/ bayonet will shoot 300yds
300w/o bayonet will shoot 400yds
600 w/ bayonet will shoot 500yds
600 w/o bayonet will shoot 600yds
Anything farther call in a tank, mortar strike, artillery strike, or the Typhoons ;)

smellie is this right?

So there was only the one version of the mk1 sight? Good to know. And Cdn303 thanks for the info, unfortunately with my eyesight I'm looking to shoot down to 100/200 yards (I know the micrometer is a 200 min) past 200 open sights I only see color changes not shapes :p sucks being only 26.
