I bought some Chinese surplus ammo from lever arms in Vancouver they marketed as non-corrosive. to be abundantly clear, I asked several times when I was in the store and the guy who worked there was adamant it was non-corrosive. now I have 2 guns with rust in the chamber and barrel. I just looked inside a fired casing and there are two flash holes, which to my understanding means it is berdan primed. I am going to try and clean the rust tonight. I don't want to jump all over lever just yet, i am wondering if anyone else has purchased the 1440 round cases with 2 spam cans. can you offer any insight into this strange turn of events? could there be some other reason the two firearms i have fired that ammo through are rusty?

This comes up about once a month, lever is selling corrosive ammo as non corrosive

Its pretty well known here that the Lever Arm stuff is corrosive and anything bought from there should be treated as corrosive just to be on the safe side.
Just out of curiosity how long was it between firing and cleaning, some of this surplus gets nasty in less than 24 hours in my gun and other stuff has done no harm 3 days later.
Hopefully you got her cleaned up and no lasting damage was done

Take your rifles in to the store, right to the guy who told you its non-corrosive. Ask him to explain to you how this happened. Demand to see the manager and ask him how he plans to make it right. Now that your rifles have been ruined by their false advertising they owe you two replacements. Simple.

They will say that you still need to clean your gun, even when firing non-C ammo. Which is bullchit, of course.

If you can not be bothered to clean your rifles then expect them to rust. It's your fault.

The point is, even with regular cleaning corrosive ammo will still cause rust.
And lever arms is selling it as non corrosive which is idiotic.

You have come to the wrong place to talk about this go to a legal aid. It will only frustrate you further asking here about it and brings out the bungholes on this site who think their pessimism is required. Been there done that, be happy you didnt pay 350 a case. Yes its corrosive. Yes they will blame you and claim the manufacturer marketed it as non corrosive and thus it "is not corrosive", and just "dirty". They will also tell you this to your face based on old claims of people who apparently went in and confronted them.

Otherwise go to your lawyer, that is the best chance at compensation and actual help. Please keep us up to date on how it goes. If you are successful im sure others will follow suit.

Ya lever sks ammo is corrosive happened to a friend of mine too, but I told him repeatedly to clean his sks after fi ringing it, as I know it may rust, and I was gonna clean mine. He didn't listen then called me to help him clean it. Had dinner and all the booze I could drink from his bar, while cleaning his sks. And he got a nice lecture to just always clean your guns after firing.

everyone on the board should give lever a call and tell them to correctly label their surplus... lol, probably wouldn't do it though.
