Corrosive or non?

Have a bit of ammo lying around, and can't remember whether it's the corrosive stuff or not.

Also have some new labeled Norinco stuff that's labeled non corrosive, but read quite a few reviews saying that it is.

Appreciate the help. Thanks!

Top stuff looks like czech surplus, corrosive. Bottom is Romanian surplus, I don’t know of any commercial non corrosive made in Romanian that made it here so id go with corrosive. I know norinco has made both corrosive and non corrosive. You can look up dates or you pull apart a case put it against a clean piece of steel and fire the primer and check on it later

At least 2 of the 3 are very likely corrosive. The Norinco could be either, despite it saying noncorrosive on it. I'd check before I take their word for it. Some people have found out the hard way that the Chinese are not above false advertising for sales, lol.

That's what I figured as well. Was hoping that the brown box stuff I had bought was non corrosive. Sometimes I just want to take a few shots, or go out for grouse without having to strip the rifle for a good cleaning.

I do have a little Barnaul ammo, and some brass case stuff, but it's a little pricey. The brass case stuff moreso, and I hate throwing away brass...

The Norinco should be non corrosive...everything else is corrosive.

The Norinco stuff has rusted 2 of my guns. It is definitely corrosive. Not a big deal, but I certainly wish it wasn't incorrectly labelled.

For what it's worth, I have heard that some of the Norinco stuff is actually non-corrosive, but it might depend on year. All I know is the white box stuff was 100% corrosive when I shot it, and now I treat all Norc x39 as corrosive.

OP, if you don't want to clean your gun after going after a couple grouse, just use the Prvi brass cased stuff. It's definitely non-corrosive, and it's not like you shoot a crazy amount when you're hunting so it's not that expensive.

OP - IME that Romanian Red Stripe is pretty accurate for Surp. I have a few strips of it I'm saving for the Zombies ;-)

well the time of disposable red rifle is gone lol ...

If I shoot corrosive I clean it when I get home, if I shoot non corrosive I don’t clean it till it actually needs it. It gets lubed regardless of how little or often it’s cleaned, all my guns are like this. Hunting rifles get cleaned before sight in and then not till the season ends or the next season starts. Rimfire get cleaned when they start ftf/fte and pistols at the 1000rd mark or so. I’ve got better things to do then detail strip/clean a gun after I shoot a box of ammo through it but that’s just how my routine has become, they’re in no different condition than when I used to clean after each range trip.

I haven’t cleaned an sks in 2-3 years, last time one of these threads popped up I pulled it out of the safe and pulled the gas tube off and shined a light down the bore, bit of soot in the gas tube and a shiny bore was all I saw. It shoots a couple hundred non corrosive norc white box anytime I take it out, while I wait for barrels to cool while I sight a rifle in.
