Okay, let's say you want to build an oddball rifle like an 8x63 Swedish.
The only brass you can find to date is milsurp that is Berdan primed with a disclaimer saying they have corrosive primers and you need to clean the barrel right away after each use.:(

Don't get me wrong, I like to take good care of my toys, but I am curious what the barrel life is like using these primers even when you do keep the barrel clean.

Has anyone gone to the effort to convert a berdan primed case to boxer? Is it even possible?

Thanks in advance for your help!

You can convert Berdan to Boxer. It is a serious pain and unless you have rare brass, its not really worth it.
Berdan primers are larger in diameter and thinner compared to Boxer primers.
You can reload Berdan, it again is a pain but you can find berdan primers from time to time, if your so inclined to look.

8x63 is cheap you can pull the bullets and powder and reload it with what you like.
As for the corrosiveness of primers... nothing to really worry about if you clean properly. Look at the WW1 and WW2 guns that shot corrosive ammo. As long as its taken care of it shouldn't be an issue.

just my 2 cents...

Thanks John Y, I have been in touch with Andy and learned alot already from him, he did a good job of that website! I would say it has the most info of any I found on the net so far. Google can't even come up with 20 useful links!
Was just trying to see if anyone else here has had experience with this calibre.

i have some of the 8x63 ammo that i have been disassembling to load in 8x57. the thought has crossed my mind to convert a mauser 98 to this round, maybe try to make a replica of the swedish m/40. but, with the cost of the reamer and gunsmithing, not to mention shipping the ammo from ontario, it did not seem worth it.

btw, shipping on the ammo i bought was $50/thousand delivered to edmonton.
