I have a Mosin on the way. I'm assuming it will have cosmoline on it. What is a simple way to clean the rifle from the stuff ?

no need to buy brake cleaner. remove the stock and just scrub the metal with a soapy brush and water, and then pour some boiling water on it after that and down the barrel. as for the stock the key is to heat it up and let t seep out, like with a steamer, or in the oven on low, or on a hot day in the yard in the sun... or just re-finish it.

Dishwasher....

Only the stock though! Do we need to re-visit the M305 in the dishwasher thread again!!?? LOL!

But, the least harsh of chemicals the better, so use Simple Green automotive degreaser on the stock and metal parts. Its biodegradable and it smells nice!
You can use it in the bore too, just be sure to dry thoroughly and oil all metal parts after.

Get it at Chinadian tire.

Give it a bath in simple green. Much easier on all surfaces than brake clean. Let it soak, rinse off with water.

Perhaps it's a stupid question, but why not just give it a good wipe and leave traces of cosmoline on it? Though I admit I like my firearms oily and rust-proof.

This technic gets my vote… unless you don't care.. then you can use brake cleaner and oven-off.
