Hey guys I was curious what it costs roughly to to bebarel a remington 700. Not including the cost of barrel and I'm thinking of using a factory one. I'm trying to decide if it's better to sell my rifle or rework the action I have.

Is there anyone on Vancouver Island that you could recommend?

Quality stainless turned blanks cost upwards of $450 and can be chambered, threaded and installed for $250 +. Factory barrels can be bought used from $100- $150. Installation can be as little as $25 on up to $150...

What cartridge is your rifle? What do you want to do with your rifle? The 700 is very easily trued by smiths with the right equipment/tooling. Usually from $150 and up.

I have a 300Wm is a great shooting rifle as a hunting rifle. I am more interested in target work these days. I was thinking of swapping it for a 308 but if I could get a new bbl with a break and a heavier target stock to help with taming the recoil a bit id shoot it more. Also I do most of my shooting at the range and that's limited to 250yds or so.

The other issue is it seems like it would be shame to break up this beautiful rifle but maybe it's just sentimental.

A 300Win Mag is a lousy rifle for 250 yard target shooting... regardless if you put it in a heavy stock or brake it...

I suggest keeping it for hunting or sell it.

If you want a short range target rifle get it in a lighter caliber shooting smaller bullets and less powder and more accuracy for less cost.

.300 Mag out of a hunting rifle isn't fun to shoot all day either. .300 Mag target rifles tend to run in the 15ish pound plus range for that reason. And a factory barrel is not a match grade barrel. Made for hunting accuracy.
In any case, Epp's wants $150 plus the cost of the barrel for a ready to install(like your factory barrel) barrel. $225 for a blank.

Your .300 will be a long action. .308 is typically used in short action. For that reason it may be tough finding a workable magazine unless you install a single shot follower. You would also need a new bolt with a .308 boltface/extractor for the conversion to work. New bolt + new barrel + gunsmith cost + a magazine solution will cost more than a brand new SPS tactical or varmint that's ready to shoot.

I just bought a benchmark barrel from Bighorn. Great people to deal with! Cost 500 with a precision lug. That's a HV 28" 1-7, 3 groove for my .223. So far all price quotes I've got in southern Ontario are 300 to 500 for just the barrel install, and an addition 300-500 to blueprint the action.
