Cost to mount a deer head?

Got mine done by one of the best guys in Ontario... and it was $500.

Sounds about right. I think I paid about $550. Prices are pretty much the same across Ontario. Watch out for the cheapies!!!

About $500 or so. Guess you get what you pay for.

On a lighter note, there's some different taxidermy out there.

Don't know what this little bugger is called, but it must have been hell to take down.

I have a couple of beautiful deer shoulder mounts. I really cannot remember what they cost me but it was well worth every penny. I look at them almost dayly and remember the hunts when I took them. If a taxidermist does very good work then get him to do your trophy. Or Save some money and look at a poor mount the rest of your life????

sounds about right make sure you get to look at a lot of heads in his shop the range is between 475 and 550 and make sure you specify what type of mount you want . If you want you can buy the eyes and manican of the deer position and bring it in and have him mount it talk to him before you do it if you can do it yourself shouldn t cost more than 250 good luck and give me a pm because we have five world class taxidermist here in the kootenays

Here is what mine looked like... try and ignore the odd patch of hair around the shoulder by the wall.. that was my error in skinning... Without the camera flash, it's barely noticable however. Money well spent in my opinion.

These two bucks were taken many years apart but the price was still right around the $500 mark each...

This one was under $400...

IIRC this mount was $375. He was a scrapper, the cape was beat to hell...

A friend of mine had a $250 mount done by a hobby taxidermist and got what he paid for. Looks like a friggen mouse with antlers...lol. Now he'll have to shoot another cape and pay $500 on top of the $250 because he tried to chimp out :D

My 05 buck cost me 350 and was doen very nicely. A lady from my home town did that one. My 06 buck is in the process of gettin' done and it will cost me 450 by a guy in the town I live in now, plus he predicted 8-12 months to get done. My 05 buck was done in 3 months. But 450 isn't bad.

Getting back to the point about going cheap, we came home from one elk trip with two 6 or 7' black bears. We wanted them made into flat rugs, but didn't listen to the rumours. Delivered the hides and that was the last we saw them. Long after the fact, we heard the guy had a batch come back from the tannery with all the hair fallen out. Not everybody who claims to be a taxidermist is actually a good taxidermist.

For the record Selsted's in Regina and a younger man in Moose Jaw are very well respected.

nice looking work Steyr101, who did it for yah?

That was done by Rick Poulin in Ottawa. VEry well done, and his turnaround time (around 10 months) is great considering how many he gets in every year. I believe he was (or still is) the taxidermist for one of the federal museums.
