any1 ever seen one??? about 7 years ago the public school i attended was shut down for the day because of a cougar sighting, someone had video of it sitting at the top of a tree at the end of the field of the school watching kids. I can't remember if they drugged it and moved it somewhere else or what. Last fall during deer hunting season a guy from Grey county(hour or so north of toronto) seen a cougar and they took pictures of the tracks and everything, they phoned the ministry and showed them the pics and they denied that it was a cougar LOL, I personally have never seen any cat other then a domestic one out when im hunting, I definatly wouldnt shoot it unless self defence...I only know of one other person that has seen a cougar, and he seen it 15 minutes away from my house crossing a road about 5am about 5 years ago.

suppostly they are up north a bit but i've never seen one, not even a track

I not only saw a cougar , i had him in front of my truck and then in my scope . I reported it to the MNR in Thunder Bay and they said that my sighting was not all that unusual . 4 years ago the MNR sent a team up to Kenora to investigate a rash of cougar sightings . They cast tracks that were definately cougar and analyzed scat that the DNA proved conclusively came from a cougar .

If a cougar wants to eat you, more than likely you won't know until its on your back. They have no problems with waiting and stalking until a proper opportunity arises.

I've never seen a four-legged, feline cougar. The other kind I've seen lots of.:D

While growing up in Northern Ontario years ago I saw lynx occasionally.

Is there a fine for shooting cougar? I was told by MNR, I think that a certain cougar from BC or somewhere if shot in Ontario is a $10,000 fine. I think I was told there 2 different breeds in Canada?

We used to have a bobcat living in the swamp/bush behind our camp. Every so often it would let a yell out of him. Scare the jesus out of us in the night. Never actually saw it though. It was there for about 4 years. Don't know if it died, or just buggered off. I would never of shot it even if I did see it.

Dave.

Last year in late Dec. while trout fishing I followed a deer blood trail for a while till I noticed paw prints following too. The snow was iced on top but the cat was heavy enough to break through the ice portion. The paws were large could only have been a Cougar. This was 40 min's. north of London Ont. Needless to say I didn't stick around. A 13 ft. Loomis does not make for great Cougar defence.

See lots of Bobcat on St Joe's and lots of linx up around the moose camp but have yet to see a cougar. I was talking to one of the old guys the other day and he swears he and his wife saw a cougar by Blind River Otario last week, stood off the side of the road a watched them for a couple minutes he says.

We saw tracks last fall that were either a large bobcat or a young cougar . they are around the Kenora area . I try to remember that when I am hunting that there is a far superior predator in the bush .

My Uncle in Ontario shot a cougar 2 years ago, on his farm.
His golden retrievers just had puppies and I guess the cougar was hungry. When he woke to the dogs growling and stuff he saw them fighting, the 30-06 ended the fight.
2 of the puppied and the father of the pups had to be put down from injuries, and the mother needed a lot of stitches on her neck and face.
The vet actually picked up the body of the cougar if I recall.

I used to see some kind of large cats around thunder bay several years back, no idea what though.
