Cougar sighting Go Home Lake

There is definitely the odd one around Ontario. Where they are from, no one is sure....native or escapees. Dead one near Thunder Bay may have been legit
wild. The one's around Southern ON are likely all escapees.

I bet 90% of the "cougar sitings" are fake news though. Guy down the road saw one and took a pic.....it was a fisher.

I've seen a big cat (dog sized, no stubby tail, did not look like a bobcat) up around that area about 7 years ago. It drove me crazy trying to figure out what it was as the MNR said there were none in Ontario at the time. About 6 months later more sightings in that area were reported, then the OPP shot one, you know because their on the endangered species list and it must have endangered some cottagers garbage can.

Anymore info on when/where shot etc?? I've never heard of this.

Fishers are dangerous as well. A hunter sitting in a tree stand was attacked by one.>

Marked for interest... now that all the Rodney Dangerfield wanna be comedian's have 'shot their wad'. Almost as funny as when you bring up hearing impairment and they say ' What?' then throw you that 'Ain't I clever?' look.
Um, no... not at all actually.

I'm in BC, but have heard cougars around my house. Scared the crap out of my wife and kids the first time we heard one scream nearby, while having our afternoon coffee in a tree fort we'd just finished. My wife saw one in our back yard a few years ago and there have been other sightings in the area. I've never been lucky enough to see one in the wild, but I recently got a really weird feeling while out at night taking pictures of the northern lights. I could hear something moving really close by, and very quietly. Like cat quiet. I've spent quite a bit of time in the woods alone and at night, and have always sort of laughed off people that mention stories like that, but I was in a pretty big hurry to grab my light and turn it on. It was really weird feeling like I was no longer at the top of the food chain. I can't say for sure it was a cougar, but we definitely have them around our area, and anything else around there makes way more noise.

I'm not sure what I saw but about 8 years ago or so I was in the tractor going back to cut some firewood one spring on the Bruce Peninsula when I saw some critter with a long non bushy tail and a coat to match. I was about 400 wards away and I had on my prescription safety glasses so my sight was as good as it was going to get. If it had a longer head I could have said it was a redbone or something along that line but the face was short. The sighting lasted only a few seconds and then it turned down a bush trail. I had a rifle in the tractor for coyote or grouchy bear so I went looking for tracks but found only coyote and tractor tracks. Like I say I don't know what it was but those cougars that didn't exist until they showed up on the endangered species list came to mind.

i had a bad experience with a cougar when i was first making the bar scene.
An older woman came up to me and asked if i'd like to go back to her place for a mother/daughter threesome.
I thought great, her daughter is probably my age. And it being my first time and all.
But when we got to her place, she opened the door and yelled, "hey mom, you still up?"

lol! Laugh2

Doh!

I have exactly zero faith that the cottagers from the GTA have any idea how to identify a mountain lion. Having talked to many of these day dreamers, it could be anything from a groundhog, to a bittern (yes a bird) to the neighbours redbone coonhound.

Exactly. I hardly even bat an eye at these claims anymore. The amount of people that say they have seen them around here is astounding.

Thanks. I was not disputing that there is the odd one around. The trapped one was quite close to me and was declawed, like the shot one. The trapped one in Grafton is now residing happily in a zoo in PQ I believe.
