Could someone please measure their wood? I am trying to restore a Mark III Ross M1910 rifle. Could someone measure the length of the stock from butt to end of the stock near the muzzle? How far from the muzzle does the stock begin? Thanks.

The Mk. III (1910) stock is 47" long; tip of stock is 3 1/2" back from the muzzle. If preparing a stretch piece for restoration, it is helpful to use a bayonet as a gauge.

I saw a restored Ross stock at the Eganville gun show. The starter stock was a cutdown sporter-length stock. The donor foreend was from some miscellanious Mauser. The joint was under the stock band, and was reinforced with dovetail and dowels. The finishing touch was the two parts were stained to match.
