Could you convert a .270 to a .270 wsm ??

What action? The bolt needs to be altered and if you want the magazine to feed cartridges the rails require tricky modification. It may not be successful. Do you have the chambering reamer and headspace gauge or would the gunsmith be required to buy them? What length is the barrel? The WSM will perform better if the barrel is not too short.

why bother, seems like it would be more work than its worth to gain (?) so little. unless there is a problem with the 270 barrel, leave well enough alone. If you must have the 270 wsm, trade your 270 in on one.

Easy enough, but you'd have to change the barrel due to the difference in case length as a minimum. The .270 Win uses a 2.540" case. The WSM case is 2.100" long. You wouldn't be able to just rechamber. A new barrel plus installation can cost the same or more than a whole new rifle.

From the sounds of it guys I think I will stay with the .270 and either buy a WSM or trade this one on it. I was just wondering if it would be cheaper to get it modified by a gunsmith or not bother and just buy one (shoulda just kept the .270 wsm I had :x )
Guntech the action is a Model 700 and no I don't have the reamer or headspace guage.

Cheers!!

scott_r,

You could have it rechambered to 270 Weatherby Magnum. That would completely clean up the chamber.................and the 270 Wby really performs!

Think of 130 gr bullets at 3500 fps. :)

The 270 WSM doesn't even come close.

You could consider making a .270 Winchester Ackley Improved. That would only involve chambering and a die set. That would run about $300.
