Couldn't Find Extended Baseplates For My PDP Mags... So I Made My Own.

Just like the title says, I was excited about buying stuff I didn't really need for my new PDP, when I realized the only option for extended basepads where in the US... at $30 US each...

I have been tinkering with Fusion360 as a bit of a side project over the past few months... so I figured I could probably make my own. Turns out I can. (Don't worry RCMP, these are +0 pads and do not add capacity)

I'm actually pretty happy with my design, and even just being printed in standard PLA can take a few drops on concrete before starting to show it.

Let me know what you guys think.

Looks good, any chance of releasing the .stl file to somewhere like Thingiverse?

Not sure what plastic you are using but note I did plates for my CZ mags in PLA and they have a tendency to crack after a bit of abuse.

Right now I am just printing these out of standard PLA. Mostly because I already have a bunch of it, and my PLA slicer profiles are pretty tried and true.

This is actually my second version of the basepad, and I have been doing some destructive testing. With these angled basepads the load of the magazine bottom lips are spread across several layers, which helps considerably with the durability. As-is I can get 3 or 4 drops on concrete from shoulder height before cracks start forming. Pretty well unlimited drops on the ground outside.

I'm going to design and print a TPU bumper for these, in hopes that helps dissipate shock load when dropped on hard surfaces.

In regards to putting the stl out there... I'm not sure what direction I want to go with these.... I'm considering having a run of 100 milled in aluminum, in which case I will have extras to sell... Selling printed pads, or even selling the STL for personal use are also on the table.... but at this point I'm keeping the STL private, at least until I decide what I want to do with it.

I came to the forums to try and find help locating base pads for my PPQ as well. These look great but I'm not sure if they would fit the PPQ M2 Mags or not?
If they did, I'd be interested in buying some aluminum ones as well. I'm in Calgary if you need a mag to borrow for testing lol.

Thanks for the support guys! A bit of an update on this project is I am currently working on a "Version 2" of these pads. Dimensionally they will be the same, however the new version I am testing is printed out of 2 different materials, giving the bottom of the pads a bit of squish, allowing them to absorb the shock of a drop onto a hard surface. My preliminary destructive testing has gone really well, allowing the magazines to be dropped from a second story window onto concrete without any damage. I am hoping I have a finalized version that I can offer for sale within a week.

Thanks for the support, I am 90% sure that the PDP and PPQ M2 magazines utilize the exact same baseplates, so it should work no problem for you. However I am a little ways out from getting a run of aluminum ones made. Machine time isnt cheap and I would need to invest in a significant run in order to make it worth my time. Not to say it wont happen, but I will probably be selling printed ones, at a very reasonable price. If the demand is there I would certainly consider it.

My source for the pads being the same comes from the Mantis X training forums where people need special baseplates to mount their training system. Mantis support lists the PPQ M2 and PDP baseplates as being interchangeable.

You should 100% produce these and sell them for the magwell version of the Pro SD, if they make it over in time.
and the Canik Rival…

I have plans to eventually have a base pad that will work with the Floyd's Custom Shop mag well, Id be happy to do the same for the Compact and Canik versions down the road, I would just need to take some measurements off an existing mag as properly seating the magazine and over-insertion can be a real problem once magwells are involved. The FCS (Who designed their magwell in direct collaboration with Walther) had to make changes in both the taper angle, outside dimensions and bottom out dimensions when designing their pads to work with their magwell. Definitely something I can do, but not something I would want to ballpark.

I am almost 100% sure the PDP Compact uses the same mags as the PPQ polymer and steel frame. The full size PDP does not use the same mags.

From what I understand the PPQ uses the same mags as the PDP Compact, and is different from the PDP Full Size, however both the compact and full size mags use the same baseplates.

I have not had a PPQ magazine in hand personally to test with, however based on what I read online it sounds like the footprint of the mag is the same, only the full size mags are longer.

IIRC there are companies down in the US making a sleeve, so that people can use the full size mags in their compacts without bottoming out on the ejector.

If I can get my hands on a PPQ/ canik mag I would be more than happy to test fit one.

I bought these basepads and can confirm they fit my PPQ M2 mags

Nice looking !
The recent combat handguns magazine featured the PDP-F ……oh how I wish I lived in the great USA and could carry !
The reviews are excellent and I’d sure like to get my hands on one to shoot …..
Walther has some nice stuff this year .
