Counterfeit Leupold Riflescope Warning

Leupold® is issuing a customer alert to purchasers of products, particularly via Internet sales, in regards to bogus Leupold products that are apparently being illegally imported from the People’s Republic of China. These products bear many of the marks and trade dress of current Leupold & Stevens riflescopes making them very hard to distinguish externally from authentic Leupold products.

Counterfeited Leupold Mark 4® riflescopes and more recently, counterfeited Leupold Prismatic riflescopes have begun to arrive with increasing regularity at the firm’s Beaverton, Oregon, headquarters for service. These products are not manufactured by Leupold and are not covered by the Leupold Full Lifetime Guarantee.

Leupold employs serial number tracking for all its riflescopes, so if a customer finds a scope that is suspect, he or she can simply write down the serial number and call 1-800-LEUPOLD to confirm if it is indeed authentic.

I saw one the other day purchased online by one of my employees. He almost cried when i showed him the lens covers were machined about as well as a BSA

You have to be very aware of this. A number of these have been sold on the EE without the owners even know it.

It's an on-going affair. They have had this message out for a few years now. Feel sorry for the victims.... totally unaware that it's a counterfeit.

Ah, the good old Chinese R&D ( receive and duplicate) departments strike again. I really hate some of the stuff from China because of this issue.

Then you hate the electronics in your computer and your vehicle. You hate the lightbulbs in your home, etc. There is very little that we use that does not have some part or essential parts made in China.

What I wrote that I hate is when the Chinese manufacturers take something that is legitimately made for our markets and copy it using very low quality components. I did not mean that I hate everything made in China or overseas for that matter.

Hence the "Chinese R&D (receive and duplicate)" comment. They are notorious for getting proper manufacturing contracts and making crappy copies of them. If you have never seen this then you need to take a look in a dollar store, Walmart, Sears, Zellers, Home Depot, Lowes, etc....etc... These duplicated products are all over. The 'copied' products all hurt the companies that make the real items.
