I recently got a Norinco M4 and it was suggested to me to see if it has the upgraded extractor buffer installed or not. I looked on youtube, tried googling it, looked at parts diagrams and didnt see this rubber o-ring part or have any clue where it would be installed if its even on there, not would I know how to install one if I need to purchase one.

Second, and even more importantly! Something I was wondering (got something cooking in my little brain), does anyone know if the bolt carrier is heat treated or not, or what type of steel is usually used to make this part?

congratulations for buying an ar. my norinco 14.5 does not have it and it works fine. shoot it before investing in solutions to a problem you may not have. these guns are fun, enjoy it!

Bolt carriers are usually made from 8620 and then case hardened (somewhere in the region of 58-62 RC? but don't quote me).

You could also use 4130/4140 (you still would have to harden. 4140PH/4130Ph is only around 30RC)

i wouldent worrie about an extractor buffer . just shoot it and you will see if it needs anything after that.

Oh I WILL shoot it before I buy the extractor buffer parts, but someone suggested I look to see if its already installed.
And since I dont know where to look, I thought I'd ask. I still dont know where to look LOL. I've got 200 rounds in the ammo box for a cold morning of shooting tomorrow, hopefully I wont need to worry about aftermarket parts at all.

Thanks MALICE, so having the bolt up around 500 to 700 degress for 10 hours shouldnt hurt it, thats not hot enough to anneal it. IF I can get a supplier for a new bolt carrier, I will be doing some testing on one to see if I can make the bolt "lubeless" ;)

So I guess I was worrying about nothing with that extractor buffer part. I only had one issue shooting today, and it was a major one. After shooting almost 200 rounds, the problem was the weather. It was snowing like a fiend out there today and my hands were freezing. Not one single FTE or FTF or anything at all, the gun ran great and I am VERY happy with it! Had it been an indoor range, or nice weather, I could have shot it all day long with a smile from ear to ear!!!
