Hey all, I have a couple Remington 03A3's and a Remington Model 10 pump shotgun. The shotgun is a bottom eject, bottom load unit, at current accepts only the 2 3/4 shells. is the shotgun capable of firing 3 inch shells if i chamber it for 3 in.

The 03A3's, I wanted to make one into a 300 WSM, is the receiver/bolt capable of handling the added pressure ? I read about the P14/17/s and think the 03A3's had the same receivers. Any input would be appreciated.

03A3 is not the same receiver as the 14/17, different rifle entirely. Check the serial number of your 03A#, early serial numbers should not be rechambered to anything, and if your going to shoot them at all, only use mild 30-06 or 30-03 (not the same as the 303) handloads. Personally, I would use a late serial numbered Springfield receiver for a classic cartridge, not any WSM, but it's your receiver, so have at it. I have no idea about your shotgun, sorry. - dan

Your Remington Model 10 shotgun has been obsolete with no parts available for about 50 years now I think. It was made before 3 inch shells were invented and I don't think it could be converted. I am surprised it is still working, it wasn't the greatest design.

Don't I know it LOL. But it has taken a few chickens. My brother used it a while back, and said he ran some 3inch through it, with no problems, gave him #### for it, wasn't his gun to play with. The whole unit seems heavy enough.

So I've been finding out hehe. Where I got mucked up, the guy I got it off of told me it was a Rem Mod 30, which is the p17 continued after WWI. I found out it was an 03A3, but yet if you look at a pic of the Mod30 and the 03A3 they exact. So I assumed it was the same design from Remington anyhow.

Well after some hours of searching the web, I found out by the serial that it was made in 1942. So nice high serial.

Unforgiven (or whatever name you care to use)

If you look at a 1903 Springfield and a 1917 Enfield or a Remington M30 closely you will see that the latter two are not exactly the same as the 1903. There are significant differences in internal and external shapes and designs. The 17 and 30 do resemble each other but there can be differences between them too depending on production times if you know what you are looking at. Get some good books and learn the differences.

I'm a bit surprised that the Model 10 ejected the 3 inchers. I played around with my Dad's Model 10 a bit and the Challenger 3" is longer than the ejection port. Dad got it in 1924 and it still works.

RJM, I don't know if he had problems, maybe he did and didn't want to tell me LOL.

Ya Stoker, was checking about and there is a lot of minor differences. Gotta find something to read up on it more. Nice rifle though, I know the one I have has a smooth working action.

If the 03A3's are in good shape and the metal is complete, don't turn it into a sporter. There are plenty of P14/M17's out there for $100-$150 than have been sporterised already that would be good for your project.

Hitzy, they've already been done. Bought them that way. But came to a decision, got an 1903 , so gonna keep it, my brother has a friend interetsed in the 03A3's as a pair. So sell them and just start searching for my magnum in an action I like. Like a Win Mod 70.

Thx for the input everyone :)
