Hello folks. I am looking for those of you who have some experience or recommendations. I have a 16ga model 12 that I want to upgrade with a new stock set. I contacted Bobby at "Scattergun Stocks" and was told they will not ship to Canada. Have any of you used the services of a third party importer to obtain a product readily availble in the U.S.? I would also like to send the same gun down to "Simmons Guns" to have a ventilated rib attached and the gun re-blued. Have any of you used the services of a third party exporter to facilitate this?

I know it can be done rather smoothly as I have had the guys at Lawrey's send the gun to Briley for tubes and it went without a hitch. They do have an established relationship with Briley however.

Do you know anyone living in the US? If you do that would be the easiest as far as the stock goes. Have it sent to that person you know and have them mail it to you. A stock such as that isn't restricted. It's just that some companies have a blanket policy of no shipping to Canada.

Theres places in border towns close to Canada that act as shipping depots. They let you use there address and have the item shipped to them for a small fee, usually 4 or 5 dollars a package. You just email them with your info and that you have a package coming to there facility and they email you when they get it. A online search will reveal many of them I know there's at least 4 shipping depots in Port Huron.

Thanks for the suggestions re mail and shipping depots. I'm going to consider the Port Huron option since i have a trip planned this fall and that's my crossing point.

Anyone send a gun to the US for work?

Complete guns, barrels, receivers and triggers are restricted items. Wood, choke tubes, ribs, etc. are not restricted. Lawry's can do the export / import for you. Prophet River is another. You might try Wenig Custom Gunstocks ... they are a bit more worldly than Scattergun.

barrels, cylinders, receivers (frames), complete breech mechanisms are "extra restricted" under ITAR,
but all gun parts are controlled by ITAR.

"Parts, components, accessories, or attachments for USML Category I firearms"

123.17 Exports of firearms, ammunition, and personal protective gear.

Or if you prefer, Brownell's FAQ on the topic:

Generally speaking, items which need a license are:

Firearms
Firearms Parts
Optical Sights
Reloading Components

NOPE not from my experiences not all are ITAR
We are talking a wooden shotgun stock here which I have received a dozen of in the past 7 years all legally and no extra paperwork because

The Department of Commerce regulates the export of such items. See the Export Administration Regulations (15 CFR parts 730—799). In addition, license exemptions for the items in this category are available in various parts of this subchapter (e.g. §§ 123.17, 123.18 and 125.4).

Missed the shotgun stock reference. Yes, Dept. of Commerce regulates those exports.

That being said even though it is fine to ship to canada I have found it is hit and miss and sometimes they will sit in customs for many weeks until they send it on and make their mind up
I have had 1000 once fired shotgun hulls taken from one shipment and lost some cash and the hulls so now I get Prophet River for what it costs to take care of them when I have to get them state side regardless
Many In the US don't know their own laws I find which makes it more frustrating when they use a blanket process
Cheers

That's what I get frustrated with too 3macs. One place will simply and confidently send you an item with no issues, and another just blows off a customer saying it's not legal.
Thanks again for the suggestions fellas. I'm going to check with Wenig and maybe drop a call into Lawrey's or Prophet River.

Wenig Custom Gun Stocks will no longer ship to Canada. They will sell you a stock and ship it to a US address. As of last week, they were a little behind on their orders so it will take about six weeks for your order to be processed. Great company to deal with. Too bad they no longer ship to Canada.
