Cow elk calls

I'm looking to get into some elk this fall. What type and brands of cow calls do you experts use.

Criteria;
1) Easy to use
2) Durable ( Not too many worries about reeds getting out of wak )
3) Reasonable price ( $400 electronic calls out of the running )
5) Most of all "effective" given the right set up etc .........

I really like the Primo's Plate series calls. ie Ivory plate, Hyper Plate, Imperial plate etc. These are mouth calls they are cheap and easy to carry. I like the mouth calls as they don't require your hands so great for up close work. If your like me and have a horrid gag reflex you can cut them down to some extent to make the smaller, took lots of effort but I got so I could use them quite well without throwing up. Occasionally you can wear them out from carrying in your mouth all the time, but they are cheap and it's easy to carry a spare.

For other calls the Primo's Hoochie moma works fine.

There are other calls you can just blow, but I have less experience with them, however I've always had good luck with the Primo's calls, and you can get some good instructional videos from them.

I agree the reeds are nicer to carry, but if you're just starting a squeeze call will get you going quicker. Hoochie Mamma is my favorite in a squeeze call.

Hoochie Mama to start along with the one Todbartell shows are great to learn. I personally use diagram calls (but I do carry the Hoochie Moma and the other one in a LEAD COW)- nothing to be held so if you have your bow drawn or looking thru the scope on a rifle, its a quick chirp being hands free which means no movement also. Takes practice but worth it.
