Cowichan Tribe on Elk

Interesting perspective. A few years ago I was camping at Takla Lake on Canada Day and a group of 4 young Indigenous guys pulled up and asked if we had seen any moose, because they were looking for some "fresh steak". The guy I was talking to said he had already got 5 this year. That's July 1st - he had already gotten 5.

Another guy from up around Dease Lake told me how moose fetus is really healthy for elders.

Wildlife "management" is so messed up in BC.

Hunted that area and a buddy grew up in parts there, Indian road blocks and extortion to pass through and hunting camps being raided in the past. I've been harassed on the way out and slurs were yelled out in passing, I wouldn't lump all the Indians into one but there are some serious problems with a self entitlement with Canadian lands and Indians, however, Indians do not have the monopoly on being idiots, I've seen it both ways, equality under the law is a must, after all, we are ALL migrants and have struggled the same struggles over time as our Indian brothers and sisters.

quote from Murry Sinclair; He said that "land acknowledgments weren't to acknowledge the people but to give thanks for the land you are on and all that it gives to us." If you look at it from that perspective then sure, acknowledge all the way, but that's not what's being forced down our throats. We're expected to give thanks to all of these tribes for being on their land.

At the end of the day respect is a two way street and no-one is better than the other regardless of the colour of your skin. Maybe a possible solution is to roll back the calendar on tradition and culture, when a person has to hunt traditionally with traditional tools and implements it is the "natural ways" and shows a true respect for our food source, because what is happening now is not traditional nor is it ethical.
