Coyote calling...

I use a Foxpro FX3... costs and arm and a leg but works great.

I have also had success with the plain jan Cotton tail distress calls.
I feel here on PEI, pressure is high so having a few unique sounds is good!

Same way they got em in Newfoundland. They came across on the ice. The first Coyote killed on PEI was 1984, I was 10 but I still remember the images on TV with the COs and a Yote that was caught in a snare. People were reporting seeing them since around 1980 or so. Now 23 years later, they are everywhere, Coyote hunting has been popular here for about 10-15 years.

A coyote was spotted a couple of years ago on the ice, just off the Magdalen Islands, he didn't survice the trip apparently, starved to death on the ice.

Best thing to happen to PEI IMO, before the yotes, it was harder to get permission to hunt private land and 95% of PEI is private!
 
99% mouth blown calls for me.I do have one of those POS Cass Creek handhelds,but rarely ever use it,although I've had the kids take it out back to test and it doesn't sound 1/2 bad @100 yards?Up close it has a sorta "tinny"sound and the max volume leaves alot to be desired.I'm too cheap to pay for a FoxPro:jerkit: and I also enjoy and prefer the challenge of doing things oldschool.
 
(I'm not the most successful coyote hunter so my opinion may not be worth much but here go's)

I built a homemade e-caller from a megaphone and mp3 player. It works good and sounds fine but I will be using had calls mostly this year. I have several jack rabbit and cottontail distress calls I use.

I just found it is to much to carry to the stand. I've already got a rifle, shooting stick, seat pad etc... and the e-caller just made it to much.
 
I tried out 3 different predator Cass Creek calls 2 days ago in my yard and had a coyote sitting in my field at 100yds but wanted him inside 50 to shoot him and he wouldn't budge, I think I heard him laugh a few times at me though. Cass creek crap! Going to pick up a Foxpro!!!
 
some of the cass creek ones aren't bad, the turkey ones are pretty good, nothing makes an easier meal for a coyote then a fat snow bound turkey, gonna try it this winter with a few of my decoys, see how that goes.
 
I am hoping that this site is going to remain a work in progress and will undergo many different levels of evolution. I will confess upfront that I am uneasy about many issues surrounding my predator hunting activities. Deeper into this website and as my predator hunting experience deepens, I am hoping to explore some of the more emotional and spiritual aspects of what is turning out to be for me an extremely spiritual journey rich with discovery and growth...and I am under no illusions about how difficult this is going to be.

If you are uneasy about some of these things, continue at your own peril or better yet, disembark. If not, then let's continue!
