Anyone ever use or make one? I was thinking about getting a chunk of plywood about 18"x18" and putting a spring type door stop in the centre and a chunk of dowling in it with some type of fur thing on top. Tie a string to it and give it a yank every so often to add some realism. Do you think it might work?

coyote decoy

I am going to try a small stuffed 'teddy bear' attached to a flexable stick or rod that can be stuck in the snow and wiggled via a string??? Will see how it works???

Give "Redfrog" a PM and ask about the Foxpro, "Jack in the box" decoy. They are $125cdn shipped and they do work like a charm in certain situations.
Here is one I took and this is actually where he dropped to give you an idea of how close he came in,and he came in fast.
I think your homemade one would be fine aswell but if you have a c-note kicking around, you really should get yourself a nice Christmas present.

I may be wrong but I believe the Jack in the Box decoy is controlled with the remote on the Foxpro Fx3 or Fx5...so you may have to buy a $600+ electronic caller first

I am waiting for a Jack in the box as we speak!!!
On my very first Coyote hunt, I shot a rabbit on my way to the stand, left the rabbit on the ground about 40 yds from my stand and sure enough after calling the coyote was on to of it. Now I am sure in this situtaion, it was scent that attracted him as there was no movement.

I thought about buyinng a Jack In the Box but think it is awful bulky. I am in the process of building my own decoy, it will be simular to the JIB, but only smaller. BTW I useually walk up to a mile to some of my stands in the winter, kinda a PITA to carry a decoy and a dog from a stand.

I use a Renzo decoy. It's a one dimensional picture of a coyote printed on plastic. It's fun to use when coyotes get all territorial during mating season. They bark and growl and act all pissed off. It's pretty fun to watch. I've heard of coyotes even attacking the things thinking it was another coyote in their territory.
Decoys work great in certain circumstances. You just gotta figure out what kind to use and when to use them. Most allow an extra second or two for a shot when the coyote first sees it and tries to figure out what the heck it is.

I have thought about trying that as well. We will have to give it a try over christmas holidays.

I think I was wrong, you can use the JITB alone but cant control its movements obviously without the remote
That is right. It does however have a delay on it which would allow you to get tucked away.I think you would only need the delay if you had the coaxer chirp enabled(another option it has),otherwise, turn it on and get tucked away and start with your mouth calls.

Yeah,I use them quite a bit,a fawn, turkey,or rabbit, along with electronic caller and/or hand calls. They do a good job of keeping their attention.
There's also a little gadget called "Decoy Heart",which is just a small plastic ball with an offset battery powered motor inside,so this makes it wobble.I got some stuffed toy animals from the thrift store, one was a rabbit, and cut it open and shoved the ball inside and its got lots of movement. It can also be taped to the stake for the fawn or turkey decoys.
I also intercepted a couple of ladies fur hats,my wife was going thru some of her great aunt's stuff, and was going to toss them. One is coon and the other is mink.Haven't tried them as decoys yet, when I'm crossdressing they just look too darn good on me.:dancingbanana: GJ
