First day checking rabbit snares, only set up a couple yesterday.Lots of rabbit tracks in the snow but also lots of coyote tracks around too. With any luck I will set up some more snares today depending on coyote sign.Does anybody else have coyote issues ?

One of my co-workers kids ran a snare line outside Edmonton for a while. Gave it up, because the coyotes learned to follow his trail through the place and clean out his snares. The kid got tired of feeding the coyotes.

Get a rifle, and start hunting coyotes! :)

They are smart and adaptable critters. It won't take a lot of pressure on the 'yotes to convince them that there are easier pickings, or, you just may find yourself with a different hobby (coyote hunting).

Run a coyote snare line right along with the rabbit line!

Good plan until you gotta have a trappers ticket to snare coyotes. Check yer regs.

Otherwise, the best you can do is set your snares as well as you can out of the way of the coyotes, and hope for the best.

Have wondered if a fella could set up a snare that would lift the rabbit out of reach, using a counterweight or similar. Would definitely not be as convenient as a couple loops of wire in yer pocket, but not as inconvenient as finding rabbit fur at every snare site either.

Yes you need a trapping license to snare coyotes here, short course, fairly cheap and I found a good way to stretch the NS hunting season out, much to my wife's dismay, lol.

l think for this year l may see if my father inlaw will set some up,hes a trapper but he doesn't have the mobility anymore.Going to try the course hopefully this fall.

term is 'coyote ugly'. The story goes that a drunken man picks up a girl at a bar late one night, and wakes up with her head on his arm and shoulder the next morning. She was so unbelievably ugly that, rather than wake her up, he chews off his arm to get away -- much as a coyote will chew off its leg to escape a trap.

I don't know for sure but you may spend more time tracking 'yotes' than baggin' Wabbits.

Snaring coyotes may be more fun than rabbits, if not as tasty lol.

Set out some new snares and trying patiently to leave them alone.
