I was talking to a guy today and he said they should be running around $100.00 this year for a decent one. Anyone hear anything similar? Another question...can you shoot one on a Rez if you are passing through?

I just got off of the phone with my father. He shoots and traps 'yotes, as well as skins, stretches & dries them.
I asked him this very same question. He said delivered whole in the truck box prices are about thus; shot poorly 5$, shot well 10$ and maybe 15$ for a fancy grade.
Prime 'yotes, trapped and well processed hides might bring 100$ per in the spring.
This is in South AB, FYI

My neighbor, who is a full time trapper, said the same thing to me 2 days ago. He's not a tech guy but said it had something to do with online auctions or such.

So if I read this right, there is about $80 difference between an unskinned yote with a hole punch thru both sides, and a skinned out and prepped hide with no holes?

More or less. If you shoot them with a 17cal there is generally only 1 little hole. There are guys who will skin a coyote for around $30.00 and leave the selling up to you. I was going to use my .257 this year but will take the 17FB out if I'm going for coyotes.

Shoot mine with a 22-250, I shootem with his rounds and they never leave an exit wound, and he average 107$ last year all shot, he does a nice job prepping them. I trade my yotes for his rounds.

Another question...can you shoot one on a Native Reserve if you are passing through?

Short answer - No...

Long Answer - Hell muthafu*kin' NO ! If dumb enough to try it, hope the Cops come before a disgruntled Native comes along & catches a non-native "hunting" on their land...

* you need all the same licences, AND permission to hunt from the property-owner & Band Council.
I'm in the process, already have landowner-permission (30-40 acres) on the Res' just need to talk to B/C.

Who in AB is buying coyotes?

Seems to change from year to year. Usually some ads in the regional papers. Guy from Eckville and some Hutterite colonies come to mind. Most guys like to sell the frozen carcasses. Lot of work to prepare a coyote skin for the fur market and it has to be done right. Then there are coyotes and there are coyotes. Fur has to be prime and the lighter the better. Not a cash cow. :) Probably easier to take advantage of the bounty some places are Paying. Saskatchewan?

Skinned and prepped for a good hide or frozen carcass ? :) If that's the case, how come they had to resort to this?

Skinned, dried and prepped for auction of course,no one in their right mind pays $70 for a whole frozen coyote; never have, never will. Shooting them's the easy part.

Check the auction sites, nafa.com and furharvesters.com for current info and prices.

Also, that article is from Feb 2010, a lot has changed in the fur industry since then.
