Just purchased a remington vtr 700 in .243 and i'm undecided on scopes.
I would like to have something in 6-24 range.
Trying to keep price reasonable as it is a coyote gun.

That all depends on what you think reasonable price is. Some people think $1000 is reasonable some others say $300 is. For around $400 to $500 the Vortex viper might be something to look at. If the $1000 mark is in your reach then the Sightron III would be a good choice.

Here's a thought, instead of the Nightforce for the 7mm get a Sightron III and with the money you save on that you can get another Sightron for the 243

Just a comment on your 6-24 spec: I love a Hubble scope for high magnification for my old eyes and have a cheap 6-24X50 on my new .223, but keep in mind that even with a 50mm objective lens (pretty standard at that magnification range), your exit pupil will be small at the higher magnifications making it sensitive to eye relief without blacking out on you.

If you have young eyes, maybe that's less of a concern but even though I am just starting out this winter myself on coyote hunting, I can't imagine it's going to be very forgiving on cheek weld given maybe an unstable bipod or body positioning, blowing wind, shivering body, etc, lol. I plan on leaving the scope set at about 16X for an exit pupil of around 3 most of the time and only use a higher magnification when conditions allow/require it. So, if you can get better glass/reticle at a lesser top end magnification in your price range that might be a good choice too.

I feel less is more for scopes. We all dream of mowing them down at 500 yards but reality says 125 is usually average. A big 'hubble' can be a pita to get on a moving target. Id say a vx2 3-9x40 with cds would be an oustanding scope for coyotes and come under budget. e

A 3-12 is probably ideal, a 4-16 if you really want to extend your range. I run a 3-12x50 on my .243 and don't feel under-powered by any means.

Looks like I'm the odd guy out.

I have a 6x36 Leupold on a sporter 17 Rem, and a 2.5-8 Leupold on a sporter 22-250.

A 220 Swift HB has a 8.25-25 Leupold but it's a heavy pig to be lugging around.

I say worry more about low magnification capability and objective size. If a coyote comes within 50 yards its kinda tough to get a good bead with 6x. Ive learned this from experience last season. Im trading the 7-21x for a 2.5-16 I think...

I run a Bushnell Legend 3x9x40...For practise, Im shooting 8" pumpkins out to 367 yards across open fields, so its more than enough scope for taking yotes at 150 plus yards....as long as they stand still.

Depends on your style of hunting. If you work a lot of fields with paranoid, farmer motivated yotes, go with a higher mag 6-24 and a Mildot and leave it on 12x because you're not likely to get a shot @ 50yds or even 150.

If you call fairly normal, unmolested yotes, or in deep cover go with something like 1.5-5 or 3-9 because likely shots are within 100yds.

I had a Bushnell elite 6500 2.5-16x42 and switched it out for a 6.5-20x50 Zeiss on my 223. After you are surprised by a coyote coming around from behind you and noticing him at 25-30 yards you'll wish you brought your shotgun or had a lower power scope. Unfortunately I left my shotgun at home that day. The elite 6500 is going back on my 223. You can't beat having the option of 2.5-16x on a coyote rig. In my opinion, if you can't hit a coyote with 16 power you wouldn't have hit it with 32 power either. Plus calling them in is far too fun. When they hang out at 5-600 yards, invest in a bigger assortment of calls and decoys and challenge yourself to get them closer rather than chance a less than ideal hit.

Will you be calling when you go hunting? If yes, get a 3-9. Most shots are not much more than 150 yards and 6 power scope can be a pain to get on target when a coyote comes running in at close distance.

You can get a used bushnell 4200 6-24 for about 350$. Great scope but large and heavy.
