I know this sounds smart ikey but I don't mean it that way.
Set up in an area where YOU know there are coyotes, not the neighbor, nor the farmer, but where you see tracks in, but not out.
Coyotes move a bunch and I have been known to set up where they used to be, in the past. I try hard never to do that again.
Setup ideally where they are, with a seemingly good(safe to them) place to check out your UPWIND caller/decoy by way of the DOWNWIND.
Depending on season and what call you are using, they will generally come straight in or try and circle downwind of you and your UPWIND caller/decoy position. That puts them closer to you and keeps you between it and the caller/decoy.
I sat up in a new place yesterday with a lake more to my downwind side to prevent any from circling too far downwind, forcing them to enter about a 3 acre clearing/orchard. I caught a quick glimpse in the edge, but he didn't like the odds of entering the clearing, the crows found him and had him skittish. So sometimes it doesn't work out no matter what.
Personally, I think he had heard the joke about "one day a coyote walked into a BAR", a Browning BAR. lol
