Coyote, should I kill and how to

if you dont want to wait for it or get tired of waiting, might i suggest a 10 dollar fawn/rabbit/mouse distress call? (if its legal under this circumstance of course) and then wack em. How bout getting a trappers license if its not too much trouble and just snare the little fu@@#r(if its legal to do so)

Good advice on the predator call. Trapping in Ontario is a highly regulated activity, that most people don't want to invest the time & $s in anymore. Gone are the days when you could just walk into a hardware store & buy a $10 trapping license. You have to complete a 40 hr fur management course. I paid over $300 for the privilege. I agree snares are one of the most effective ways to catch canines in the Winter, but it is prohibited in nearly all of Ontario South of the French river. As others have said, shooting is probably your best method if done safely. Good luck to the OP getting rid of his coyote problems.

why the .22 mag will work just fine heck inside 50 yards .22lr works well

If you have to call the animal, or shoot it at 200 yards then you are not going to be protected under the "protection of property" clause. The animal has to have already done damage, or is just about to before you are covered under the MNR's regulations.
It would be wise to just get your licence, then you can shoot any which one of them you choose.

If you have one, chances there are more. Like others suggested, Might be a good idea to get a new rifle, just to be sure I have the range (and stopping power), because you want to make sure it's dead. If you wound it and runs off, it's going to be a lot more aggressive then usual if something gets near it, and I'm pretty sure you don't want a wounded Coyote in your neighborhood. Also, if you kill it and drag it into the woods....it could attract other scavengers. Not sure if you have Bears around, but they will be coming out of hibernation soon and they'll be hungry.

Just my 2 cents. Good luck.

a local had his small dog tore up and when he looked out the barn door to see what the racket was a coyote was standing close by while his dog was making for the barn .his second dog a collie took a run at the coyote but was chased back to the barn also . so yes there are problem coyotes out there and when they are that bold a lead lunch is in order .
