CALGARY — Wildlife officials in Alberta are investigating the discovery of dozens of coyote carcasses found in a provincial park in southern Alberta.

Some 37 animals were shot dead and found with their paws cut off. They were discovered dumped by the side of the road near Cypress Hills provincial park last weekend.

Investigators say a $20 bounty being offered by the Saskatchewan government for every dead coyote may have been the motive for the killings.

Until March 31, that province was offering the reward for every coyote killed if its paws were submitted for proof.

If caught, the perpetrator could be charged with littering.

The Nerve of Some People!!
We all know that this type of carelessness just gives the antis huge amounts of press for the cause they spout off !!!
Why didn't the idiot(s) who shot them either left where they lay or just burried the carcasses??
Hope he/she gets charged with littering and a bill for clean-up...in on or near a Provincial Park is to dam stupid if you ask me.

If this guy was stupid enough to dump the dead dogs in the ditch,he probably went to the nearest RM office and handed in 148 paws and they will have him in no time.

"motive for the killings" What the hell are they yapping about, these are COYOTES not people

Yea but they were shot in a provincial park..so "motive" meaning "why" would someone hunt them in a PP. Simply because they were looking for a monetary gain around 700 in bounty. Unless hunting was permitted in the park. The individual was taking some big risks.

Were they actually found in the park? There seem to be conflicting reports. If they were, who's to say they were killed there? Again, proof, anyone?

This amuses me as about 5 years ago I found 20 odd deer carcass in a ditch and when I called it in to the fish cops there was little or no interest in even coming out to the site.
These are coyotes for crying out loud, I can't believe someone took the time to put them all in one place. Just cut the feet off where you find them.

I would bet these coyotes were a guys whole winter take. After cuttin the paws off and giving them to a cousin in Sask, then trying to sell the carcass with the hide on to the Cypress coloney and finding out that no one wanted them; proceded to dump them on the way back to town.

I think Alberta Wildlife officials are underworked/overstaffed if they get concerned over this!

If they find out who done it send them to my area plenty of coyotes around here.
