CQA made of inferior alumenium

Ever seen or heard of a 10k rounds NEA ? Seen a lot of Norinco though :p

I had an NEA DMR type rifle that had a very, very high round count. Honestly though it was only 1000 rounds or so before I had to get a replacement bolt after it sheared a couple lugs. After that I had no complaints. I lost it in a house fire otherwise it would probably be going strong. NEA was a terrible company but they managed to sneak out a functional rifle every now and then.

. lol. I never understood the point of buying that crap. A race to the bottom.

Back in the day when your choices for an AR were 800 dollar Norinco or 2800 dollar Colt/LMT etc we did what we had to, to get into the game.

Now a days there is zero excuse for buying either when you can buy a S&W for 650.00 or aero receivers for 100.00.

I was around long before those days. I vividly remember the twilight years. Most cgners don’t know how good we have it with the options out there. Considering we can get Colt Canada 🇨🇦 now and HK are even at great prices all things considering. We are doing well.

just red on a gun blog that CQA are made of inferior aluminium . is it true

Depends on the application and the specifications requirements.
Without knowing the maximum stresses the aluminum component is subject to it may be perfectly acceptable.
If the forces exerted on a component never exceeds its maximum (based on a factor of safety) - it is foolish to think spending twice as much for the same part makes the part "better".

6061 with the correct Temper may perform fine. Given the price of bare uppers and lowers, it might be cost-effective to purchase 2-3 of the lower "quality" receivers for the cost of 1 "superior" version.

Barrel usually wears out long before the "aluminum" parts.

I'm guessing since I don't know what secondary considerations have been taken into account (i.e. how it takes a finish, wear properties, brittleness, etc..)

Note - any costs saving buying two lower-priced uppers/lower will almost always be offset by the urge to purchase the parts to complete the firearms.

That is exactly the same as;

"I just heard at a gun shop that ......"

only without leaving the house. Which metallurgist using what testing lab published those results? The sad reality for many people is that Norcs just work, and when they can't accept that they do work, they start a FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt) campaign to scare people

Exactly, couldn't have said it any better!

And you know what op, our 2 Norinco M4 clones continue to work & are decently accurate. BUT, given today's market, I'd buy North American if I had a do over.

Cheers
