For those that might be interested, I'm hosting a one day CQB clinic at Range Burlington on February 15th, 2014. This will be modeled after the long running and highly successful "ORA Winter Training Series." Space is limited to 30 participants/competitors.

Details can be found in the Training Events sub forum at CGN or on Tactical Teacher's web site.

I'd like to do one of these sometime, but I'm a Galt member :(

Doesn't matter, we forgive you for the lapse of judgment (j/k) ;) Join the ORA and you're set.. You'll have to do it anyway if you wanna shoot CQB matches. Yikes, I'll have to do some major Arkansas holds for up close.. Sighted in at 25, shoots 4" low at 10 (bone-stock T97).

Actually ORA matches are open to non-members but if you shoot several you are better to join and save the guest fee.

Shooting lower as you get closer, yup, sights elevated above the bore will do that. You will learn to adjust your aim as you go closer or mount an optic that allows for adjustment (that's what works for me).

Thanks for the correction. With my dot that would be 160 clicks, so I'll just have Arkansas it, especially on the trs-25, which was designed to work with a screwdriver.

Lots of room left to sign up... Shoot me a PM if you are a BRRC or ORA member and wanna get some trigger time. Only $40 for the day clinic.

Cheers and keep helping the noobs around here,
Barney

Dress warm people! Layers, hats, gloves are a great idea. Here's why:

Even though this is an indoor range, and we can shoot from the heated ports in shirt-sleeves, the action shooting takes place down range. Our air handling units run about 10km/h+ in airflow, so if it is -7 outside on Saturday, it will feel like -15C at the 10m and 35m down range firing points. Windchill is a definite possibly. Our PPC, IPSC and SASS sections have reported very, very cold conditions at the backstop.

Definitely bringing my toque and gloves. Never shot with gloves on. On a good note got some pmags so no messing with lar mags.

Just curious, what's wrong with using LAR mags, besides that you have to pad the bottom of the mag pouch so that they don't drop right to the bottom leaving nothing to grab onto. My T97 loves these, and we'll see how it goes tomorrow at the clinic.

They don't drop free from my magwell, so they need to be pulled down as my left hand is going down. Stupid-easy with full-sized mags, time-wasting hassle with those tiny things inserted so there's only a littlebit of meat left outside the magwell. If I loosen the mag catch so HALF of them will drop free, I get feeding issues. Thanks, but no thanks.. Too many things to think about when learning a game that's limited to 5rds per mag anyway.

Mine drop pretty good, and I find the oddball mag release is a lot easier to get to with the shorter mag. I'm not planning to let me mags drop onto concrete anyways, speed is not my issue. Now the T97 safety, that's a real piece of work, not sure how that's going to go with gloves on.
