Hey guys,

Just received my brand new Colt Canada SA-20 and realized that their is a small crack in the front sight post. The crack does not seem to be that deep but I do find it regrettable on a gun worth nearly 2 grand. Should I send it in to warranty or am I making a fuss out of nothing. What are your opinions does it seem to affect the integrity of the front sight post. I worry that it could get worse with shooting. Thank you for all input.

I believe that is “forging flash” I am no expert but many times I have noticed little deformations like the one pictured on forged components where the forging flash is.

Thanks for your input, Just find it strange that it looks cracked. My only concern is proper function not aesthetics. As long as it does not get worse that's all that matters to me.

Just the line from where the forgings clamp together. Nothing to worry about. Most FSB will have variations along the seam. It won't affect the function at all, nor the strength. If it was all the way through I could see but not where it is at.

I understand how something like that can bug you after spending that kind of money but it's only cosmetic. Won't affect anything at all so shoot away and enjoy :ar15:

That's just cosmetic and a non crucial part of the gas block. You can always check and see if they will warranty replace the gas block for you if you are concerned about the integrity of the whole part.

But, but ..... his rifle's zero will now be OFF by 1 MIL down and 0.5 MIL to the left ..... cou: cou: cou:

Forging flaw as others have noted.
Since that part is not under any load it will never spread or break.

IMHO shoot and enjoy your rifle.

Is it even a forging flaw? Or just the result of the forging process?

If that were considered a flaw, 90% of the cast/forged parts I powder coat at my business would all be flawed also, as I have coated hundreds of parts with imperfections like that in them. Normally its on the inside of the parts or in an area that is not visible, usually near or on a seam where the flash is. Most of the cast/forged parts I coat have imperfections like that, and a lot of time in more then one spot on larger parts. I would say that is more of an imperfection or blemish not a flaw, because the definition of flaw to me is suggesting its not good, weaker or useless. And it may very well be within the manufactures quality standard and that is why it made it past QC. The OP could always try, no harm in asking, but I doubt they are going to replace that
