Crappy Tire sold low-grade Savage 110's in the 1980's. They had uncheckered hardwood stocks and a blind mag. I used to own one (very briefly) in .30/06 and it was a piece of junk. When you pulled the bolt back, all the cartridges came flying up out of the magazine! Anyone else owned one of these? Was it junk like mine?

you should have sent it back for warranty, savage would ahve fixed it in a minute....
In souther ont, you were within driving distance form a warranty centre.

Nine, you'll have a hard time finding guys that dislike savage for a good reason these days :)

I have a Savage Model 110 in 300 Win. Mag. I bought it in the mid 80's. It has lots of nice checkering and a drop out mag. It will also kill moose very quickly. It has never let me down . I guess there are lemons in firearms too. Bob

I took the rifle right back to CT and they sent it out for repair to an outfit called Peterborough Guns (I don't think they are around anymore). The repair shop said the gun was fine and the problem was me  ! I had to dig my heels in pretty hard before CT finally let me exchange it for a different gun.

I never come across that particular type of M110 since then. Someone once told me they were a run of M110's that Savage made specifically for CT. I don't know if there is any truth to that.

My first rifle was a savage model 110C. I bought it used from an old trapper who was out of the fur business. He told me that it was a "meat gun."

This fellow was not lying because the .30-06 has served me well. It has a few character marks from years gone by. I have thought about replacing it with a newer 30-06, but cannot let it go. It is not a precision rifle, but the critters on the table cannot tell you the difference.

what ain't broke dont need fixin'

I also have a Savage 110E in .308, it's also a mid 80"s rifle, blind mag. The checkering is present but the wood is not nice looking but hey, it is wood.

Simple and accurate little rifle. the only thing I can find "wrong" is the bolt that's a bit harder to operate compared to my other rifles, beside that, no problems at all.
