Hi

Since I can leave anything alone and I do like to change the appereance of my guns, I had this crazy idea for a Ruger 10/22 I have. At first I wanted to make it a folding M1 carbine, it was done and it looks great. Then I tought about a Tommy gun, but the kit is available...so guess what I feel like building ?

How about a Sten gun with the Ruger action and barrel ? I know this will take a lot of imagination, but that could be a unique gun....For the side magazine I was thinking of a compartment where I could put some 22 ammo...

So, what do you think ? Am I crazy ??

Bob,

Sounds like fun, TAKE PICS.

There is documented proof (and letters) that state that so long as the host firearm's serial number is visible within the "chassis" and that the overal length doesn't change to place it into a prohib class, it should be legal.

Don't limit yourself to the 10/22 though, consider what other arms may exist, and consider them as well.

Consider a pistol action too..

Find one that's top eject, that way you can have your mag out the side, and eject out the other side.

You can also build up the pistol with the proper length barrel instead of having to hang a big goofy rifle length barrel on a STEN.

It seems hat the AR15 is the only other rifle that has more accessories than a 10/22

There is also a MG42 kit for them. as well as a handcranked gatling version with two rifles.

I like the Sten-22 idea, I'm just not sure how to work the trigger on the bottom with the mag out to the side. It would be easy with a dummy mag on the side and the 10 round rotary mag on the bottom, but I'd hate to lose high capacity.

How about this one based on the Ruger 10/22:

I'm using the Ruger action simply because I have it. Why a Sten ? Because I never saw a Ruger made that way before, and I like the rough look of it.

I'll do a mock-up first using some plastic vacuum tubing I have, and from there I'll proceed with steel.

I will find a way that the serial number of the Ruger will be visible. As far as lenght, it is minimum 26" IIRC, so I should be good to go.

To be continued later....

It will be a dummy mag (with storage for 22LR ammo) and I will use the 10 round Ruger mag.....so no side mag on this one.

Think of it as a disguise for a Ruger action and barrel.....
