here is a couple markings on a ross III CRB I am unsure of.
first is some writing I cant make out. second is on top of the barrel L O?
any ideas what they are?

I have a CRB, a PH and a NWT. I forget what CRB is, but my understanding is that PH is Pridy's Hard and NWT is Northwest Territories. These markings seem be be somewhat of an enigma.

NOT ENGLISH MAKE: applied when the rifles were put aside for export, just so they would not count as English production; the proof laws were different also.

The rifle was made in Canada, sent overseas in the Great War, grabbed by the Royal Navy when the CEF re-equipped with the SMLE, turned over to the Royal Marines Light Infantry, who issued it at their training base at Crombie, whence your CRB. It was put into storage after World War I, used again by the Navy/RMLI in WW2, surplussed after War Two, sportered and shipped back to Canada to make a tiny bit of terribly-scarce hard currency for Britain.

The LC indicates Large Cone: the Chamber has been relieved (WWI) to accommodate oversized British ammunition, which was the REAL cause of the failure of the Ross Rifle.

You have a fine piece of History which has served through two World Wars. Tht service was done by YOUR rifle: not one like it, not one that might have been similar, but YOUR rifle. Treat it with honour, shoot it accurately with respect and it will perform for YOU, too.

Hope this helps.
