Creative ways to get cosmoline out of an SKS hardwood stock? **update**

hi , i bought some mineral spirit from Canadian tire , disassembled my sks , kept trigger as is , pulled the rest apart including bolt housing , firing pin ,pin retainer etc , gave the whole thing a general wipe then got a container long enough and soaked all metal parts including the barrel, left soaking for 24 hours .. then used a tooth brush and gave it a good cleaning with fresh batch of mineral spirit .. dry it out then used hopes 9 after.. just make sure you are in well ventilated area :)

I can't tell if you two are trolling the OP or really believe this. I can't think of a catastrophically worse way of "cleaning" a firearm then using a dishwasher (M1 Garands excepted apparently). With the high heat and moisture if anything metal on that rifle fails to dry you'll have serious rust issues extraordinarily quickly. Not to mention that it can seriously mess up the wood if you have cracks in it.

What temperature is your dishwasher set at that could change the molecular structure of metal? After running the wash/rinse cycle just take out the metal, spray with copious amounts of WD-40 (or other water displacing agent) and then lube.

As for the stocks, I have yet to have any wood de-laminate, dissolve, shrink or otherwise fail. If anything, loose stocks get snugged up, minor dings, dents and scratches are lifted and after hanging for a day or so are ready for sanding or just re-oiling of the wood. These are SKS's, not Holland & Holland firearms.
