Hey folks. I have a few mosins, and I've noticed one in particular has a creeping hand guard. As I shoot the rifle, the guard creeps forward. I'm guessing the rear barrel band isn't tight.

When I researched this - it seems to be a common issue.

Just wondering if anyone has noticed this as well and what was your solution?

Remove the action from the stock. Take a strong pair of pliers and squat the middle of the band ever so slightly. Repeat until it is snug.

Check to see how the stock spring is catching the band, that typically is what should be keeping the band in the correct position.

I had the same problem. It was really annoying. Got solved once I slapped on a few more coats of Shellac on the handguard. She needed it and the added shellac beefed it up enough for the bands to be slightly tighter and the new shellac provided more friction then the worn finish before.

Problem solved. Now no more migrating handguard.
