Hello everyone,

I am looking into booking my cfsc and crfsc courses, I am looking to book in the Montreal area, I have booked a CFSC course for June 1st, and I have found a CRFSC course for some time in april, but I have not booked it yet.

I know I must have the PAL before the RPAL and I also know that I can apply for them together, but does it matter what order I do the courses in as long as I wait until I am done both before I apply?

Thanks!

Nope! I challenged the RPAL and then the PAL later on, and sent them both in at the same time. I did this because I heard the RPAL was the harder of the two, but they were both basically the same thing imo. lol

Good points everyone, I think I will give a call to the tested and see what he has to say before I register. Thanks for all your input! I've been wanting to do this for a few years now and have been around the forums for almost a year now I figured it was about time that I did the course.

"...did not have his hunters safety course..." The HSC has nothing to do with the firearms courses. Neither does the order you sit them.

Just an update, I contacted who I thought was the instructor. It ended up being the french instructor and in the end it doesn't look like I will be making a last minute trip out to mtl for the crfsc. I'm thinking of booking a challenge as close to (but after) my cfsc as possible and maybe saving a few $ on the restricted course.

In Ontario the two courses can be run in one continuous session, eliminating hours of overlap from the agenda. Those not interested in "restricted" firearms would be finished after the first 10 hours of training; the others would continue for about six more hours of the CRFSC. The Ontario policy is that if it has been more than 12 months since your CFSC, you have to do the full 10 hour CRFSC (which basically repeats acts and prove, ammo, legal classes and social responsibilities).

I find that the failure rate is about 4-5 times higher on the CRFSC practical because of how easy it is to accidentally point a handgun at yourself.

I always see the courses listed as CFSC then CRFSC. Even when trying to fit in vacancies, the person taking the booking always suggested that I book the CFSC first. Anyhow, I have mine booked 2 weekends from now. I can't wait!

I know most people would suggest the CFSC before the CRFSC but I'm having trouble finding a place that can book me in a reasonable amount of time here in Ontario. I visit Montreal regularly to see family and friends so I'm hoping to tie it in with a regular trip there. I have talked to the FQT today who is incharge of the RPAL training in Quebec and they said it is fine to take the Restricted course before the Non-Restricted.

Contact the instructor closest to your location. I did and am arranging for the course to be taught in my home for my son and a number of his and my friends. I need the restricted so I will sit in on those parts needed on the Saturday and then Sunday is the restricted portion.
