Hey guys, I am about to start reloading for my new gun. .416 rem mag (wood stock). I will be using 400 gr. Barnes TSX bullets. I have heard about crimping but never done it before. Is it recomended, and what do I have to buy to get it done, and should I be crimping into the groves of the TSX. Right now I am reloading with RCBS and the gun is a bolt action remington with a muzzle break. Maybe the muzzle break will be good enough?

Should I be crimping for my 300 wm also? Bolt action sako (laminate), no muzzle break. Havnt had any problems with it after about 50 shots so far. Can I use the same crimp for this gun?

Thanks a lot you guys are the best. Dave

I crimp my 416 loads with a lee factory cimp die I usually crimp into the last ring however I load 350gr not 400 so you will have to check col it is not necessary to drimp on a ring with the lee die

For the 416 I would crimp everything that I was planning to take on a hunting trip for sure. I wouldn't want something coming apart and causing problems. For target practice etc. you could always try it without.

With the muzzle BRAKE there may be no problem. You could try some with no crimp. Load the magazine, shoot all but the last one, leave it in the mag and load some more on top of it. Check it for bullet movement after a few shots.

You can crimp with your RCBS dies but you must crimp in the bullet groove or cannular. If you still have your intructions its explained there. If not, post and someone will explain how.

IMO the Lee Factory Crimp die is better (more secure and way harder to screw up) and you don't have to have a groove to crimp into. You need a seperate crimp die for each caliber.

With the 300 WM I would likely crimp those too for hunting too, but again, you can always do a test and see.
