What would be the proper way to select a red dot sight for a 12 gauge shotgun setup with a 20" barrel for Deer out to 75 yards and Turkey out to 20 yards ?

I have a Vortex Crossfire red dot but it just seems too small.

I have both high and low mounts for it, high seems to be more comfortable.

The other problem I don't like with this Vortex is that even in total darkness the dot cannot be seen until the intensity dial is at 5 or above.

I appreciate any advice

I've run a Holosun 403b for the last few seasons on my turkey gun. It's performed very well for me, have zero complaints.

I think micro/T1 style dots work perfectly for that sort of use, they're compact and light.

If it's a conventional style shotgun; I would try to get it as low as possible. I use a SJ mount (mounts directly to the dot, no additional rail or mount). I would personally prefer to get something that resembles a cheek weld, rather than get slapped in the cheek with 3.5" turkey loads.

for slugs, look for a smaller dot 2 MOA recommended, for birdshot 3-6 MOA is good enough
and yes, the cheaper the more difficult to get things right
