depending what you are looking to get out of the rifle?
will it be used for hunting or punching paper?
just to let you be aware of the min' 500FPS law, if its above that you would need to have a PAL and register it with the CFC.
one af the basic mods for this rifle is switching to a steel breech so you can mount a scope and changing the piston to a flat top piston for more oomph.
the 2289 is a great platform to work with, so many mod' options.

Best Two mods for the backpacker would be the steel breach and flat top piston/valve. You'll get right around 500 FPS with 10 pumps with the 14" barrel. If you don't wan't to change out the piston/valve at least plug your the bleeder hole in the valve and that will get you ~450FPS range 12-14 pumps.
